Necessary to clear coat CF hood?
yeah it will protect it. its not really clearcoating it, its like this sort of glaze resin shyt you put over the impregnated CF weave. CF is good with or without the glaze overcoat though
I have a Fiber Images hood, It is close to 2 years old now, and has not turned yellow. Just keep it clean and waxed and the gel coat will last forever.
actually I don;t recomend a clearcoat, I had FI for over a year, and saw a clearcoated FI hood and it turn pretty ugly, dimples everywhere...
I recomend a gel coat...don;t ask me why, but I gel coat my hood once a year and the previous owner gel coated once as well, after 2 years, never turned yellow and still was in prefect condition...

Most CF hoods I've seen come w/ a gelcoat on it already. A few layers of GOOD quality clearcoat will protect it even more.
either way, a CF hood will turn yellow in time, its not made to be left unpainted..
who says its not made to be left unpainted; thats your opinion.
I disagree with this. I had a fiber images hood for 3 years and it never turned any color. it looked as good after 3 years as it did the day i got it. I just kept meguier's gold class on it- no prob

mine did eventually.
people just deny it cause they don't want to face reality and lose their "JDM" title.
why do people put such a big piece of the car, such a contrasting color?
I would never clearcoat my hood. It just adds more weight to something you purchased to save weight. Most hoods already come with a gelcoat and it just needs to be taken care of, and will last forever. If you dont take care of something, it will turn to ****, like a hood.

I have a IMOTO carbon fiber hood? Anyone else heard of it? Just wondering...
But anyways, the sun has spotted the hood with a blemish that is kinda white. Kinda like an old *** car that is dry & dull and loosing it's color. How do I refinish the hood to make it all nice and shiney???

thats true, it doesnt contrast much..but i have seen some hoods that make a black car look bad..they have a grayish tone to them.. i mean, dont get me wrong, the fibers look cool in the sun.. i just dont see why someone would wanna ruin the cleanliness of their car.. but either way, if you bought a good hood, painting it wont add so much weight that you defeat the purpose.. it will still be way lighter than a stock hood..
