Default Just drove my ITR for the first time in 15 months...

now I rember why I loved that car so much. Couple questions...

1) When does VTEC kick in for USDM ITRs....isn't it around 5,400 RPMs? I am now running a JDM ECU (I think it is a 96 spec) and it seems like VTEC engages around 6-6,200 RPMs. I wasn't sure if the JDM ECU had a higher VTEC crossover or if my tach is out of calibration?

2) I know there are some minor differences between the USDM engine and a JDM engine...the USDM has more sensors if I remember correctly. Does the JDM engine has the oil pressure sensor? Surely it does, but when my car goes through the self check after turning the ignition, the oil light does not come on. I already checked the bulb, but before I check the switch I wanted to make sure it wasn't due to the JDM ECU.

She is running as good as ever...pretty much everything has been replaced so it feels new to me Road trip time...gotta make up for all the miles we missed last year!

1. Around 5400-5500

2. Yes, it does have an oil pressure sensor.

Thanks!

1) Is 6,000-6,200 normal for a 96 spec ITR?

2) Time to get my multi-meter out

No, cuz my 96 spec in my old hatch was 5400-5500.

Ouch....so either I don't have a real ITR ECU (which I doubt because I bought it off a reputible Honda-Challenge ITR racer) or my tach is off. Where should the rev limiter be on a 96 spec ECU?

My tach is off, VTECh looks to come one at 6k for me..... All tach's are off to a certain degree. I think the biggest thing to worry about is rev limit.

Let me try and search for particular thread involving a custom cluster using quality guages...

True. What seems weird to me is the fact that before the car got stolen, I remember VTEC engaging and my cluster indicating that my revs were somewhere in the 5,700 RPM range(give or take, it has been over a year). When the rev limitor would kick in, the tach would indicate 8,700 RPMs.

Now that my car got stolen, cluster harness got cut, and I am running a JDM ECU(couldn't find a 97 ITR ECU at the time), my tach indicates VTEC kicking at 6,100-6,200 RPMs. I didn't attempt to see what it indicates when the rev limiter kicks in. I guess after resoldering the cluster wire harness, the solder has added more resistance, and it is off even more now (I am still using my original cluster). That or the effin thieves kicked the cluster around a couple times before the cops showed up and found it on the ground

My 97R got stolen/stripped March 2007...sat in the garage until I started to actually work on it new years and it is finally getting close to finished.

I have a rebuild thread, but all the pics were on We-Todd and are now gone/lost. I will have to pull my old computer out and upload/update the rebuild thread.

So the JDM ITR ECU has a slightly higher rev limit (8,550 verse 8,400 USDM)? I am assuming it is safe for a completely stock B18C5 to rev to 8,550?

Thanks for all the input.

My VTEC engaged at 5,800RPM (Almost exactly) with stock USDM P73-A0 ECU, and the redline is at 8,700. With AEM EMS, it engages at 5,200RPM, and the redline is at TBA...

Just drove her again...looks like my tach indicates somewhere between 9-9,100 for the rev limitor. I forgot how much fun this car is

Now I am curious if my speedometer is off as well. Can anybody verify that a 96 spec ECU has the rev limitor at 8,550 RPMs before I do calculations to figure out what speed I am traveling at redline?
