Mixing Rubbers???
So my front is getting pretty bald and I'm about to buy new tires, but cycle gear is having a pretty good deal on tires if I buy a set.
I'm wondering how bad it is to mix a Pirelli Diablo SuperSport Front with a Metzler M3 for a few hundred miles while the back wears down.
I'm not one to just waste a perfectly good back tire, but if it causes safety concerns, I will.
Thanks in advance.

I don't see any issue with it. They are similar performing tires, no? I would not wory about it but just be weary when cornering until you are confident of the tires gripping abilities. Remember, every tire slips at different rates.
Well this topic wasn't about what I thought it was..
but anywho, I think I would just be safe and get two of the same tire because of grip differences possibly. It they are similar and you're not planning on taking corners at 100MPH then you might be ok. I would just get two and be done with it.

Matching set of rubber share the same profile. Even tho you may think that a tire is a tire, their oval shape is very distinctive. Turn in and cornering characteristics are designed into the shape.
i wouldnt recommend it, but you'll probably be fine. the m3 is a stickier tire.. if anything you'd want to get a stickier front tire if you're going to mismatch.
I'm sure you''l be fine for just riding around on the street. I bought a pair of Bridgestone 'Spitfire' S-11 tires, and the handlebars would shake at a variety of speeds. Turns out the store I bought them from (online) sent me a mis-shaped tire. I bought a Shinko for the front and it's much better.

Thanks for the replies guys.
I don't really use the bike for much more then commuting and the max cornering speed the bike will see is maybe 70mph.
Maybe ill give it a shot for a little bit and see how they feel...if it feels like there are vibrations, I will just put the new back on too.

Meh, I have a mismatched set. I have a Conti Force Max in the back and a Dunlap Sportmax in the front. I'm not too worried about it and I got the set of slightly used sportmax's for $50.
