Im moving up to Rockford Il for the summer for an internship and want to do some autocrosses and maybe a trackday. I was thinking about putting my azenis on for the summer I was just wandering how they do for a daily drive tire. Ive only driven them once in the rain during an evo school and they did really well but Im not sure how they would do if it was worse. I also have a 400mile drive there and back plus all the day to day stuff.

I guess im just curious to see how people like them as a day to day tire and how they hold up.

They will be 100% fine. Except in snow. You won't be able to go anywhere in snow. But if it's just for the summer, let 'er eat.

they'll be fine. i bought used 615's and ran them daily for nearly a year without problems. around town, highways, heavy rain and dry, never any problems.

I second that, I had the old style 215's and they were great on the street. Heavy rain was scary but the new 615's take care of that problem

 

good for everything except snow. not that i've ever driven in snow since i'm in sunny socal. they did scare me in heavy rain when i was under 4/32 tread though. have DD and tracked on rt615's since august.

 

I've had RT-615's on my set of wheels before and i've used them for daily driving and in light rain, not a problem as long as you're driving within safe conditions.

 

i drove on them in snow - once. unexpected snow.. lol.. switched to winter tires after that.. otherwise, they are great on the street..

 

I drive pretty normally most of the time especially in rain.

Ill put them on they still have good tread and no cracking.

I like my gunmetal rotas too they look good with the green teg.

You should be fine until about 4mm of tread and heavy downpours. So when you start hydroplaning, guess what? Slow down. Simple

I had them down to 2mm of tread in light rain they were fine. Just use common sense of course when they get low.

I had 40 autocrosses about 8000-10000 miles on them when they got down to 2mm.

 

Yeah they are excellent DD tires. Everyone says they are bad rain tires but I've never had any issues with rain. Wet grip is amazing too, I bought some in December I've done one AutoX session in a very rough track, doing another one on the 25th.

I really like them, but if I find a set of cheap stockies I'll do some Re01r's, and DD on a new set of 615's.

 

do you guys break them in when there new ? or just throw them on and drive ?

I just threw them on there and started driving, the only issue I found out was that, brand new, the tires are very oily, they slip don't have allot of grip. Very slippery, the rear slid out a few times on me. I just went out to some back roads and tossed the car left and right to try and put as much heat on the tires as I could. After that I had no issues.

After running my first session and having the front tires cool down they seemed ALLOT more grippy than what they where before the event too, I switched them out to the rear to try and conserve them since they do have a lack of thread depth when compared to the rears.

Almost every tire will be a little greasy right out of the box, due to the releasing compound in the rubber. Put ~50 miles on it and you'll burn that off.

 

only issue is that you'll be lucky to get over 15k miles from them

Yup, since Dec I've put on 5k, I have about half thread left so if I'm lucky I'll be able to run at least two to three more events and or at least till July.

As people said you need to break them in to expel the mold release compound. I did about 4 figure 8's one way then the other. Went back to my garage, moved the fronts to back and backs to front and did a couple more figure 8s

Then I jacked up the car overnight and let it sit like that.

You're right, but if you rotate them religiously you might be able to squeeze 20K out of them. I did that once, but they were pretty hard at the end. Ok for daily driving, not so ok for track.

 

I'm in my second season, (Spring, Summer, Fall) of daily driving the RT-615's. Last season I autocrossed on them 8 of 10 events with TONS of runs, a few co-driver events with over 20 runs total. Two of them are down to the wear bars and two of them are getting real close to the wear bars. I'm confident that they'll last me until late fall this season before I need to replace them. I'm running R-comps for solo this season...so the Azenis are just my daily tires now. I'll most likely buy them again for my next set of daily tires. However...by then I'll probably have another daily driver vehicle...but I'll drive my car whenever it's nice.

Ive got an old set of azenis for the 14's , prolly half used. Cant wait to get them mounted again. I havnt driven on the new ones yet.

I drove with SO2's on my S2000 in the snow. Wasn't the safest drive home but I made it through 30+ miles

On topic, the Azenis are great for street/track use. Just don't expect them to last long like everyone else says.

 

I drove home from work on mine in an unsuspected snow storm this past winter.............
