I have the same problem on one of my cars. I tried all types of window cleans and nothing takes it off.

these are somee hard core water spots I went to autozone & tried those discs you use with a drill to recondition you windshield & it did nothing. would the clay bar thing really work? & what kind of purple stuff or acid based chemicals are you talkin about?
i had the same problem i took a razor blade and some windex and it came off. Spray the window down with the windex and then hold the blade at a 45 degree and clean the window, No it wont scratch the window.

I tried it and got nothing.
Out of the many different things I have tried, the steel wool was the most effective. It just takes a long time.

your automotive car wax..yeap the **** you used to wax your car..i've done it to mines. the window is sssoo cleeeaaaan and smooth afterwards. and no smudges or swirls or glears at all. give it a try and water beads up and rolls off and leaves no water marks.

Of course remember that a flat razor will remove or damage tint (in the event you're trying to remove it from the inside of the window on a tinted window).
Also be careful with the defroster lines.
