Default timing light

i just went and checked my ignition timing with my cheap timing light from oriellys just now and noticed that with the clamp that goes around the #1 plug positioned wiith the arrow towards the motor my timing mark shows up sparaticly and with the connector positioned towards the dizzy the timing mark is right on. is this a problem?
my car idles fine and everything but im a perfectionist and i want it to be perfect.

Yes. It's possible the ECU is trying to compensate for your bad timing, so it's still able to idle properly. Check it with a good light and compare your results.
