Yep, nailed it on the head but I'm pretty sure they're available in places on than Japan - just not the U.S.

Fixed.

Pretty much in a nutshell:

Both were available for 5 years. EK9 is a Civic Type-R, EK4 is an SiR (in Japan). EK9 had a B16B (destroked B18C) and the EK4 had a B16A. The EK9 got bigger brakes, better interior, better suspension, more aero styling, more power, and reinforced chassis.

I'm sick with bronchitis, so I was asleep. I have to go to work soon and deal with my ******* boss who didn't believe I really had bronchitis since he assumed I just was trying to get out of working with the new ******* manager. That was just a pleasant side effect of not going to work.

EK4s were available in many countries throughout the world. The EK9 was only available in Japan, though it was later heavily imported to Europe.

Navigation was available in most, if not all trims, dependent on the country the car was sold in.
<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by Mike_Fugi &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">hmmm i've always thought that the EK4's were the 96-98 CTR's and the EK9 was the 99-00 CTR's i could be wrong though... and yea the four lug pattern 4x114 and the five lug 5x114 somthing in that nature</TD></TR></TABLE>
The EK9 (Type R) was available as 1997-2000 models in Japan. It was available in limited colors, had the BLACK/RED interior, no moonroof.

The EK4 (SiR, VTi, VTi-S, etc.) was available from 1996-2000 (though in some countries some of these cars would be called by their production year, which could be 1995 too). The EK4 came in more colors and in many countries had a moonroof (JDM does not just like OZ EM1s don't). The EK4s are sort of like EM1s... only as hatches and sedans.

The EK4 and EM1 had similar options and accessories, but these were dependent on the country the car was sold in.

The EK9 is only a hatch. The EK4 is a hatch or a sedan.

The EK9 has a B16B. The EK4 has a B16A, B16A2, and one other B16AX (forgot the number off hand). Again, the engine code is dependent on the country the car was sold in.

Most european EK4s came with a sunroof standard, but on the JDM EK4 it was an option.

That would be very interesting since it would be the first Honda I've ever heard of with an OPTIONAL moonroof (that's stock).

Optional moonroofs are made by aftermarket companies and installed by local businesses.

Your idea of an 'option' must be different to everyone else. What I consider an option is something you have the 'option' of adding to car when purchasing new from in this case Honda. And it was an 'option' on the JDM EK4 to have a sunroof, it never came as standard when ordering the car you had to pay extra to get it.

No, I just know what I'm talking about.

You're talking about a "dealer option", which can include things like leather seats, tinted windows, pinstripes and sunroofs. Depending on what dealership was selling the car, all 6th gen Civics that were not equipped with those parts standard could have them installed by the dealership. But again, they were not factory Honda parts.

So no, there was never an option to have a factory moonroof installed in a 6th gen JDM EK4 hatch. In order to install a factory moonroof you would need to remove the entire roof skin and replace it.

EK4s were hatches and sedans.

Most comfort options varied from country to country.
