Default LS/VTEC - Quck Question

I'm not gonna ask a whole bunch of questions, I'll do some serious forum searching once I get closer to doing this ls/vtec thing. My only question for right now though is, how much does this conversion cost people on average? Any rough numbers out there? I'm just curious what I'm getting into here.

thats a very generic question.. could be any price. depends on what you have already, what you are planning to do with it (completely stock?) or itr pistons/ ctr pistons? what mounts, doing all labor yourself? taking it to a shop? depends on how much you can find all the parts for. they vary in price.. a head can be bought for as little as 200 bucks to 600.. depending on if you find a deal or not. blocks vary even more in price. and if you have a shop get it all for you its going to cost you..

I live in an apartment so I had to have a shop do everything for me. I have a 99 civic SI, so all I had to buy was an LS bottom end. Well, that and pistons, rods, bolts, bearings, water pump, oil pump, etc. I think I paid about 3.5 grand for everything. Thats LS bottom end, parts, removal of my b16, putting together the LS/vtec and putting it in the car.

Alright. Well, so far all I have is a relatively stock LS B18 engine. It's got aftermarket exhaust, header and air intake. That's about it. So I guess I'll have to replace quite a bit of stuff then. But around $3,500, really? Might just get a turbo instead then...
