When you say sounds 'rough' can you describe the sound further? The situation sounds like you may have to pull the trans. and inspect the gears making sure the change forks are engaging properly.

Well, whining noise? Is it similar to the reverse noise that a transmission usually has? Transmissions whine in reverse because the gear is straight cut. As for the grind......hmmm.....you've got me stumped.....anyone else have thoughts on this without opening the trans.?

does it grind going into reverse and then whine? depending on when you are trying ot engage reverse like under a load or not fully stopping could cause it to grind a little going into gear and the whining is normal all Hondas do it much like if you hear one start up they all sound the same

are you fully engaged in reverse, sometimes hondas need a little encouragement to get into reverse, atleast the ones that ive owned, and if they arent fully in reverse they will make a grinding noise
