My New P1 Spec Splitter, and results - (my first H2 win!!)
This last month I ran my first H2 race in a 95 civic, The car needed some chassis tuning and I suspected it was in need of a front splitter. We were racing buttonwillow, and i have done back to back testing with and without a splitter in my H4 car .
Basically at Buttonwillow a well designed splitter was worth between 1 and 2 seconds for me . ( depending on track configuration, outside temps , track condition etc.) It many places it meant the difference between being flat out or having to lift. Additionally , without a splitter I was having to use so much more "steering wheel" in the turns to the point that my fronts would go away MUCH quicker
So I had settled on having to build a splitter, then I met Jeff Owen ( KIWI ) Of Special Projects Motorsports. He advised me that he sells a splitter and mounting package that would work for me. Im pretty skeptical of any aftermarket parts ( especially since im pretty good at destroying them ).
I am a commercial pilot and my current assignments didn't allow me time to build a splitter,, But since Jeff's shop was local to me I decided to check it out .
After meeting his staff, and seeing the other cool stuff around his shop I was confident of his product so I decided to give it a shot
Here are my notes on the P1 Spec splitter
1. Mountings are extremely quick and user friendly. This made car loading really easy , and will allow for quick changes in the field.
2. The "skids" on the bottom held up to my abusive driving . (I was sure they would be gone)
3 Aesthetics are usually my last concern, however it is a really sharp looking unit . I opted to get the air dam also to complete the package.
4 I know i mentioned mountings already, but i am really impressed with the way they are made. ( i even used them to tie the car down on the trailer ). The mounting brackets are the heart of the system, They allow easy adjustment of height on either side!!!! This makes the investment totally worthwhile. When i build a splitter, it has basically a fixed height and requires considerable effort to adjust. With the P1 height adjustments take about a minute, and are totally drama free.
And the results -- well I won H2 and the overall on Sat, on Sunday I broke an axle while running first in H2 and battling with an H1 car. My fastest time of the weekend was a 201.8 running course #13 CW
Thanks Jeff
Renan

Congratulations on the win Renan! It was great to see you out there racing again.
Sounds like that chassis tuning and splitter paid off. She really didn't want to turn with me behind the wheel last year.

Looks badass. Thats not the old speedchannel car is it (yellow with red cage)?

Kinda....
It was the 3rd or 4th iteration of that car.
That car was built by Mike Quan (pdq motorsports), Roger Foo (the owner/builder of the car you are talking about) is a big part of PDQ motorsports.
They built a few EG's with with yellow exterior and red interior.

Great Job Renan! I'm just glad we were able to help.
Now we have a little time before the next event, we can try a few more tricks.
Perhaps we'll add some GEAR-X free HP!
Bring it by the shop as soon as you can and we'll get to work again.
Although.... Don't you think it's fast enough ?

In that case can someone tell me the Color code for the Yellow???
I just Eye-matched it for last weekend to tidy the car up a bit. But it would be nice to have the right color....
I have a feeling I'll be doing a lot of touch up work on it this season

Crap i can't remember now, but it was a cheap one stage paint at macco that matched a popular yellow. For some reason i think it was a yellow off of some mazda not 100% sure though.
But i am pretty sure that at least the bumper and front fender were rattle canned to match. So there are a few colors on it.

That is version 1- It does not really allow enough (Legal) Splitter Blade.
We got a small dispensation for this event.
The new version will be much better, and a lot more effective.
Not much longer to wait....

Good Luck this weekend Renan! I hope everything works great!
We'll have the EvoII Airdams ready for the next event in June, and some other "Go fast bits" fitted up for you. And the whole team will be attending again.
Good Luck!
