Skunk2 Intake manifold and ITR/CTR cams with stock ECU? Thoughts needed.
Okay, I want to make my B18C1 faster. I have I/H/E on it and it's time to make some power. I was thinking of getting the Skunk2 manifold and some ITR cams. Will these make power on B18C1 with the stock ECU? I need to make more power but I'm on a budget...the cheaper the better.
I'm in the same shoes you are, but my next move is to go for the ECU. I'm going to get the Hondata stage 2 for my '01 GSR. It's really an awesome set up that can be adjusted and tuned for every modification you get. The ECU for a stage 2 installed with the burnt chip runs about $700.00 about the price of just your cams. Go to http://www.hondata.com and check it out, it really is a great set up.
yes you will make power, getting an ECU will help but i'm running mine with the stock computer and the gains were good

translation = go for it. stock ecu will work fine
Keep it simple. ITR intake cam, A'PEXi VAFC, and some tuning with the stock manifold. I did CTR cams (intake and exhaust) and AEM gears but you can keep your OEM gears. I think the VAFC with tuning would be more of a benefit that cam gears with tuning.
Anywho, cam, VAFC and tuning = ~$700

I agree with no tuning my car did this on
a CTR intake cam with GSR exhaust...
Stoock manifolds and P72 ECU ~ installed
CTR intake cam with ITR valves/valvesprings and
made 158.5/121.4 with 118 @ 5250rpm
timing was 18BTDC and stock cogs
I made more with camtuning and the ITR 01 exhaust cam,
ITR muffler, more compression... only about 5whp/3tq
and +5 at 5250 but my manifolds are holding me back.

hey todd,
i have my dyno that i can email u w/ my set up.
i would definitely recommend JDM 4-1 header to go along with both the intake/exh
ITR cams and some higher compression pistons (if u can afford it). keeping stock ECU too. also kenji has a chipped P28 ECU that will help out in the midrange. no core exchange and $225 shipped
oh yeah, get cam gears too for tuning

Can you guys be more specific? Do you have dyno plots? 1/4 mile times? Thanks.
cams totally make all the diff and it isnt a psychological increase.
you can let another GSR driver drive the car and them go...
woah thats different

for cams i wouldnt go gsr exhaust i would personally go itr exhaust and ctr intake. heard nothing but good things. tune tune tune
I second that if you can get a CTR intake, the ITR exhaust will work great.
stock gears will give you 28 deg of overlap at dead 0,0 and a good place
to start.
