Default Fuel Pump Cavitation when braking hard past the line

My car runs fine but when i finally come to a stop my fuel pump sounds different and the car runs like *** and the FPR drops to 20 psi. It stays like this for about 2 minutes and then all of the sudden the pressure rises back up and im good to roll. this is with half ir slightly more than half level of fuel. I guess its an air pocket in the line from fuel starvation some how, anyone have this happen them? I use a competition engineering sump and we just drilled out the holes like it says too to weld the sump on.

its an a1000, -10 feed, -8 fuel line

We had the same problem ,we got fuel foam from ATF a company that makes fuel cells and stuffed the tank with it.problem solved.

I may come to this problem in the future, Can you post a link where I can buy that stuff? What is it look like and all you have to do is put them inside the tank? thanks guys.

yeah matt, foam helps alot. also what sump are you running? if you have the dual feed you can plumb your return line to the other fitting and drop all the bypassed fuel back to the pick up point for the pump, it helps quite a bit.

also what did you use for a baffle when you did yours? i know for the full race setup you cut a few holes in the bottom of the tank instead of actually cutting out a square section to kinda keep some fuel in the sump when braking

we had that exact same problem because the holes were drilled out incorrectly for the sump. so when you come to a stop the fuel isnt in the sump and have to wait til it settles. went to nrgTech and bought a sumped tank already done from them. problem solved. hope this helps.

do you have the single or new dual feed? i have the older songle adn the dual wasnt out yet, mine cavitated but i never lost that much pressure, i ended up cutting around the sump, dropping it and putting some fuel foam in there to help, then i opened up the cover where the stock pump use to sit and my return line is and crammed some foam down in there even tho it has some stock baffling in the tank, i wanted to see what i could do to help it out and mine is just fine, i drive the car all over the place

Good info. I dont think the foam is alcohol compatible though. That wont be a problem with most people using a sumped fuel tank though. Your car looked nice qualifying with a high 10 at Showdown yesterday, btw, Matt.

I drilled the holes out for the sump its a Comp Engineering. How much foam would be needed. I have a couple of small blocks of it. Plumbing the return sounds like a good idea. I have a -6 line running into my stock return right now. Would it be good to just plumb a -6 all the way back? I run a -8 feed.

thanks, i ran a 10.90 first round of elims, its ran faster but i was pleased for its consistency yesterday for a shitty track.

I had the same problem and got rid of my fr sump and made my own. I also made little tubes where I drilled the holes kind of like a minow trap idea. Fuel can get in but not back up and out. Problem solved.

if your still using your stock tank and the foam doesn't work i would remove the sump and weld baffles around it like the stock pump has and it should solve the problem, it would just take a little more time.
