Default lowering springs

Okay so it's been a long while since I've done anything to my coupe or come on HT...it's practically all stock with 15' rims and drop in K&N filter woo woo Anyways I'm looking to get hopefully soon a lip for it (spoon) and an exhuast apexi ws2 fot it...but right now one of my other car is down so money is going towards getting her back running....

Anyways I want to do something to my ride like drop/lower it a bit so it can have a bit more aggressive look to it than the stock height

I actually want to buy some full suspension like koni w/ GC springs and all for handeling but it's a bit much for right now plus I'm a total NOOB to suspension....sooo I was thinking about maybe just buying some lowering springs for now....This is where I need the help HT i want the civic to still ride just about the same (smooth/stock) but be a bit lower to have that nice look with the "new rim" thing

What spring do you guys suggest and how much drop will i get from which. i don't want to drop it too much where my tires will rub on fender and have tire problems and etc. I'm not much of a low rider I just want to drop the stock height a little to bring out that look with the rims here's how she sits LMK!TIA

If you want more comfort than drop: Tein S-Tech springs, IMO they don't drop low enough.

The H&R Sport should get rid of most of the gap, the ride isn't too bad either.

I have H&R Sport LE, they give it a 2.0 inch drop in the front and a 1.8 inch drop in the rear. There is a one finger gap, it's not too high and it's not too low. And the ride isn't that bad at all. I like my setup right now, which is Tokico Illuminas with H&R Sport LE springs. I honestly wished the springs had a higher spring rate. Still rides a bit soft, even with the Tokicos on full firm.

doesn't the full firm external adjustment only control the rebound rate? So it doesn't have any say in how they compress, only how they come back out, right?

I have the H&R sport springs too, and they are VERY soft. My mom drives the car sometimes since I'm in college and she always comments on how dreamy the ride is lol. I can't even tell the difference between the ride of mine and the ride of my friend's completely stock DC2.

from the looks of it most people say they haven't had any problem with lowering springs on stock shocks...some have had it for 2 years so- so I guess maybe it'll be fine that's all I'm worried about the most then the feel/smoothness of the ride and then the drop....so I guess which ever lowering spring people says from personal experience is closes to stock feel I'll go with that?

some people may not like frosted flakes

spring rate? what is the product line you are running?

how does it ride?

how does it handle?

how much did it lower your car?

-------------
to the op: what is your budget?

i also wanted to go for a full coilover setup, but i just can't afford it at the moment, and i don't see how i would use them fully... just highway commuting...

i've read nothing but great reviews on the S.techs, from ride quality to looks, especially for their price.

however i have read that people have scraped their bumpers on the ground due to aggressive cornering with stechs, cause they are too soft - but only 1 or two people said that...

as for shocks, it depends on your budget, and if you really want to get the GC setup down the line. if you do, then get koni yellows... if not, then it depends on your budget.

people have run the stechs on oem showas fine, i've also read that stechs with gr2s is great also...

AHHAH yeah! that's like some of the HT post where they say "go with such and such FTW " what if some people think such and such sucks instead? need explanations/details/reason etc etc. to why they're great/FTW/FTL etc etc

My budget? well to be honest since I only want to lower my car/buy just lower springs, price really doesn't matter only just lowering springs and only that! so however much that maybe $100-280??okay peeps so read...no aftermarket shocks or anything yet? Cuz I might not do much more to the ride ? but when I do I'll come back and post for that So just like to know what's the best lowering spring to buy using my stock shocks! and still have a smooth stock/ride/feel to it or something close to that...and be enough or decent enough for the drop to get that nice stance with the fresh rims

Do i have to worry about spring weights too or will the spring I buy with that given weight and drop height be good for what I want or do i pick from what they offer? If so where I have to pick spring weight what weight #s should be looking at? no clue really and I'm a NOOB at suspension though i know it's the most important part of a persons ride to not overlook it BUT today I was able to ADJUST a pair of coilovers which I thought was going to be somewhat hard?...so yeah well at least maybe installing it will be a hard?

well guess I'll check out the S. techs too ....keep em coming? just lowering springs on stock shock people! let me know from your personal experience!

if all you want to get is a set of lowering springs, and you want to keep your stock shocks...

then you are really limited to OTS rates from the major mfgs..especially with your budget...

Some brands and product lines:

Tien S-Tech or H-tech
H&R Sport
Eibach pro-kit

you will not have an OEM ride, it will handle better, and look better than stock.

look around craiglist, or the market place for a used set, if you want to save even more money.

other than that, there are thousands of threads on lowering springs, so have fun searching =D

well I guess I didn't look at prices that high($300+) for lowering springs...you know what let me just say throw me the brand of lowering spring that I should get for my situation then...to help me decided and i'll have a look at it and if i like what I read/ how much it is I'll get just that...but I'm guess i'll just buy something $300! and below, how about that so now with that price what lowering springs are pretty popular?/liked or just what people said so far? If so then okay thanks and I'll just pick form those...otherwise

The s-techs aren't expensive... i've seen sets - new- for 165 ish, depending on the seller... imo look for a authorized seller of tiens, tien lists all their distributors by state on their web site.

h&r and eibach, i dunno where you could get them cheaper than tire rack... new...

used is different.

I have Nuespeed Sport Springs and there just over the tire and do not rub whatsoever and they ride like stock and there on stock shocks. I wish I would have gone with the race springs though.
but the nuespeed sport springs drop in the front 2.0 and the rear a 1.8

LOL big difference. If you are talking about H&R, the OE provides less than a 1" drop while the Race gives over a 2" drop.

Oh so the regualar lowering springs "OE" gives you the 1" drop or so where the "race" springs give you more 2" drop.....so if I want to maintain that smooth/close to stock ride will the "race" spring do the same or be diff. too? So "race" springs gives you more drop than OE that's it? LMK otherwise thanks

I think the H&R Sport spring is good for you, it provides a 1.9"F/1.7R" drop, and it isn't a harsh ride at all.

If you recommend them sure I'll have a look at them PLUS I can finally go to KINGMOTOR SPORTS and buy them there for $150? I think and check out their sweet rides but if I go with something else I'll have to order them...I'll look more into the H&R sports springs....but just wondering so then is the order:

OE spring, then sport springs and then race springs? each giving you a bit more in drop and still maintain the same feel of ride? thanks.....

EDIT: hey looked at kingmotorsports again...how come one says "OE sport springs"and one says "sport springs"? or is it like what i said ^

hey while I'm still on the subject of srpings I have a crx that I recently just bought which can with some no name coil overs? I don't know if I mention about it already but the ride sucks really bad-too bouncy and rides HARSH! Can I just buy some springs to replace the ones I have? Though I would have to buy some "coilover springs" instead right? But I don't know the springs rates I should buy any ideas? I just want it to ride regular/smooth/close to stock or whatever...this is a 91 crx hf with stock front shocks with "sleeve coil over" if that's right and LS/gsr rear brakes so I'm guessing it's got the integra stock shocks...so yeah help on that would be great too!TIA

the lower the ride height

the higher the spring rate

also higher spring rates need stronger, stiffer dampers.

if you want to keep a stock ride, it has to stay at the oem height.

so then what can I do to my coil over on the REX? just get diff. coil over springs? Cuz I raised it pretty high like what 3 fingers or so but it's sitting on 17" so yeah didn't want it to look like a 4 wheeler too cuz before it was slammed! (previous owner)and had header/engine issues (which I have to do more fixing/replace) so raised it up and am able to drive it now but just bouncy as hell and harsh even at 25-30 mph roads which makes me not want to drive it....let me know what I can do and my options I guess....can really use the help on the REX want to drive it but damn coil overs keeps me from driving it

As far as the lowering spring I might just go with H&R the sport springs right that gives 2" drop...I guess I'll just go for it instead of the 1.5 or whatever just in case I don't like the height of it...cuz it looks like I've got plenty of room so 2" shouldn't be too much/low for me should sit right I hope....and they're only $150 at KING so

the 17" rims on the crx isn't helping the ride..

less side wall = harsher ride

imo i think you need a new set of springs and dampers for the crx,

if the last owner put some generic springs on there, more than likely the dampers are shot.

the H&R Sport springs, are advertised to work fine with oem dampers, but because our cars are old, and tend to have over 100k miles on them, a new set of dampers goes a long way.

That's true....but can't really dish out cash for new rims/tires(a new set) the ones on there are pretty much new(tires)...I mean on straight road it's rides fine.. just too bouncy on section up roads or bumps and what not that's all.... hummmm.....so can I just buy some coil over springs with stiffer load/weight and replace it? and see if it will ride better over section up road and bumps instead or whole new everything?

Yeah that's true my 95 coupe ia at 126K or is it 129K? which I barely drive it but dampers/ride is still pretty decent...so hoping it'll hold for a while yet otherwise when the time comes for new shocks/dampers will opt for the Koni <--only hear good things but otherwise only wanted some lowering springs to lower the ride a bit with the "new" rims so yeah...only drive the coupe on weekends but since REX rides terrible on NASTY roads been driving the coupe
