Default Question for slammed ludes, breaking axles

I just recently lowered my Prelude down another inch or so, and I've had to replace my driver's side CV axle twice and my passenger side once since then. I've only had it lowered like this for about a month, and the last axle just broke today after I had raised back up a half inch or so. Can anybody tell me what the problem might be?

Also, after having the last axle put on (drivers side), the car had been vibrating pretty bad when accelerating around 2-4k or so.

You get vibration, than your gonna brake axles.

Go oem Honda. They are good for over 300+ (400 even) hp I've heard.

Its gotta be installation error or the axles your buying. Where you getting them from?and what brand?

It was extremely low. Function & Form coilovers; all the way down in front, and only slightly higher in the rear. Tucking tire in both front and rear. I just raised it up to about a finger gap in the rear and no tucking in the front for about a week when the driver's side one broke today. My driving habits are VERY reserved. I rarely speed, and I take corners slow and avoid potholes like the plague (my car is very low, after all). And I sure as hell know its not HP breaking them, I have an F22a1 FFS.

The axles were purchsed and installed at NTB. I've usually had good experiences with the one near me, but after this axle BS I'm ready to say screw their axles warranties and go get some OEM Honda axles put in at the stealership.

Does anyone know about how much it would run me for both front axles installed at Honda?

Yeah, I was sitting as low as you were in the front, and only slightly higher in the rear for that angled look.

The ride quality was no fun, to say the least.

Mine setup is Identical to yours with the front completely down with just the spring and the back with the sleeve as low as it would go. I've been running around no problems for a couple years now.. I think the OEM axels would be the best way for you to go, You'd prolly be able to drop it back down after you get those axels if you want to. GL

My car is slammed and I have had no problem with breaking axles. I have oem with 175k miles on the driver's side and Advance auto parts replacement (whatever brand it is?)on the passenger side with about 10k miles on it. I'm tuckin front and rear. You might have a problem with fitment issues. I would say screw the aftermarket and go oem. I would have gone oem with my passenger side axle but I was kinda strapped when it started clicking.

Yeah, my 95 is lowered with Neuspeed race springs and I have had it that way for 7 years now. And with 143k miles on it, still the factory original axles. it sits quite low!

Im not sure why a lowered prelude would be snapping axles. I had a prelude that was dropped 4 inches, and drove it like a mad man. I Had it for over 9 years, 8 of which were while it was lowered and I never had any axle problems.

Just a crazy shot in the dark...Is it possible that you have bad engine mounts which would allow the engine and tranny to drop even farther or twist causing the axles to bind?

Has anyone ever priced OEM full axles at the Honda dealer? I have, they told me you can only buy individual parts to build them yourself. About 275.00 per inner joint is what I was quoted. Is this a line of BS?

i'm on neuspeed sports (1.75"f/1.5"r) and i noticed that i'm going through cvs because the boots keep tearing. i have advance auto lifetime warrantie ones.

how are your boots? if you're boots keep ripping and leaking all the grease out they will destroy themselves in no time.
