Why can't I pull my engine from the top?
The service manual spec's I pull the engine/transaxle from the bottom of the car. I dont' have a lift, and I don't want to get creative with 2x4's, cinderblocks, and a jack. This car is cursed and wants to kill me already.
Looking over the engine compartment, it seems that if I were to unbolt the engine from the transmission, remove the accessories and the drive pulley, undo the mounts/wires/etc... that I could move the engine to the drivers side (and if necessary, the transmission to the passenger side) enough to pick this thing out from above.
Thanks in advance for any advice.

It goes in and out whole, tranny and all. Disconnect everything, throw the harness over the fender and lift that SOB out of there. You have to unbolt the tranny mount from the frame, not just from the transmission so you can get it out. Thats the only catch. Leave the subframe in there.
your correct. i just removed a motor a couple of weeks ago. you just have to unbolt everything you mentioned and just pull it straight out. another pair of hands really helps.
EDIT: dam you justin

you actually unhok all the wiring harness from the engine whil ein the car? dude that is soo the hard way. unplug ecu , pull it threw the firewall , and drape it over engine. takes minutes.
if you were to actually do it from the bottom, isnt it much harder because you have to lower a major part of the subframe? just wondering cus i have never even tried that
