Thinking about a Type R...
So, I've had my GTi for almost 4 years. Its paid off and im getting the point where im either going to go with a big turbo setup or sell it. In my quest I've been looking at the AP1, EVO, WRX, RX8, and the VW R32 and never even thought about a Type R until a friend mentioned it but now Im really really considering it. My main goal is to find something fun to drive, decent gas mileage, nice interior, reliable and fun in the autox. Im very drawn to the Type are because despite the different engine designs its very similar to my GTI... Kinda. Its a 337 edition, one of 1500 sent to the US, retooled suspension, recaro interior with red stitching, 18in BBS wheels @18lbs a piece, 6spd, 2850lbs blah blah blah. Long story short, I love this damn car and its an absolute blast to drive. But at the same time im looking for something new. I've been trolling around here for a week or so but I figured I would post up to say hey and ask some questions.
1.) Mileage, I know its a honda but I have a stigma of buying high mileage cars. Would a *properly* maintained ITR have any issues around 80k and would be ready for 120 more?
2.) Oil consumption, I've noticed this seems to be a concern with the b18c5. Is the consumption more of an effect or the design or a sign of wear.
3.) Daily driving. This car will be my DD and coming from a car that makes around 240ftlbs around 3500-4000 rpms am I going to shoot myself trying to move around town?
4.) Mods, despite my best efforts I've yet to cut a 13.9 out of this gti. Can the ITR do it? Im more of a curvy back-road kind of guy; but it would be nice to hit that 13 finally.

Im sure I'll have more questions later... Heres a picture of the GTI just because I like to ***** my car out. Thanks guys

its a great car to daily, nowhere near the luxurious feel of VW, but its bearable. low end, eh wont have the umph(sp?) of the six cylinder.
80k miles is the typical time that R's valve seals will start to go because of high revs, depends on how it was used prior.
13's hmm.... with tuning, good bolt ons and sticky tires, perhaps.
overall, a very different car than the VW, especially since an R32 is AWD.

itr pro's compared to vw gti
cheaper bolt-on parts
easier/cheaper and more availble tuning options
better handling
better braking
more of a go-kart
easier/cheaper to maintain
cons
this car will get stolen easier/faster
not as much low end torque
gti interior much more comfy
no cruise control

Basically Justin, you live in Alabama, get the s2000, I've told you before. Yeah you lose the utility aspect, but gain alot of fun.
Orrrrr
You can throw evo, sti, rx8 (rx8 wtf) out of your head and roll with your destiny - R32 lol. The r32 is everything you listed in your description, and still maintains all utility of your 337 while adding superior drivability and powerband. If you had owned a modded dc chassis before, I'd say ok get the ITR, but its pretty different compared to your 337, as MrBabymaker mentioned.
Buy my r32 lolz....
So I can get an itr!
