I have a 1994 honda prelude si. Here is the story i have swapped out the old axle out and put the new one in. The only thing is the new axle would fit in but it would not go in all the way to the side where the tranny fluid is and we decided to take off this thing that looked like a small metal ring that goes in the axle and then it all went in I believe the piece is called a snap ring. Using this car for competition and hard turns at high speeds, was wondering if this would make my axles pop off loose? Also do I have to hit it with a hammer in order to get it in place with the snap ring on?

You DO need that snapring, it keeps the axle in the tranny.
When you are putting the axle in make sure the opening of the snap ring is on top. this way the edges of the opening in the ring will sit down inside the groove on the axle. You should then not to much force to push the axle in.
Have you taken the ring off of the axle? if so, how did you put it back on? is the sanp ring deformed?

I had this same problem with the axle not going all the way in. I replaced the axle seal that's on the tranny and it went right in. Wish I would've replaced the seal before I spent half a day pounding on that damn axle!
And you shouldn't have to hammer it in.. Should go in just like the other side.

currently have no pics, left the car in the shop and i'm going to work on it on monday. It goes in halfway and then from there it won't go in no more even if you put force on it with your hand. I haven't tried hammering it in.
I wouldnt hammer on it, you will end up damaging splines.
As long as the clip isnt stretched out to wide, like i said put the opening of the clip on top so the edges wont catch and slide it in. it usually takes some wiggling and persuading but it should go in.
