need axle help
I have a 1994 honda prelude si. Here is the story i have swapped out the old axle out and put the new one in. The only thing is the new axle would fit in but it would not go in all the way to the side where the tranny fluid is and we decided to take off this thing that looked like a small metal ring that goes in the axle and then it all went in I believe the piece is called a snap ring. Using this car for competition and hard turns at high speeds, was wondering if this would make my axles pop off loose? Also do I have to hit it with a hammer in order to get it in place with the snap ring on?

Yes, you definitely need the snap ring. Sometimes, the axle has to be "coaxed" in with a dead blow. Just remember, DON'T pull on the axle or you could slide it apart internally.

Yes, you typically just need to "tap" the shaft; not hit it. Just make sure you are pushing the axle in so the boots are already compressed. It will drop in with just a couple taps usually.
