Default Is this compression test any good?

I took a car to a local muffler shop to have compression and timing checked. I know all the guys that work there so they took care of me. Anyway, they had to advance the timing all the way and the car is running good, but not good enough. Now when they did the compression thest, here's what they came up with:

#1: 130
#2: 125
#3: 125
#4: 127

Thos are my rough estimates as the paper is in the car. But it was all within 5 psi and all between 120 and 130. Does that seem a bit low?

Was then engine warm and the throttle wide open? Did you have the timing belt replaced recently? Improper cam timing could cause low compression.

Timing belt was replaced recently, me and my buddy did it, and we had to tear it down a copule of times to get the timing right. So we got that, and it was still hesitating under 3k rpms so i took it to a buddy at a muffler shop, and they did the compression and advanced the timing. The car runs good, but still not quite right, and still a bit of heistation. I'm gonna ask him if the motor was hot or cold.

b18b1 motor.

sounds like the timing was still off

redo the timing and buy a compression tester (30$) at autozone etc

do the compression test yourself, if you dont know how there is a good write-up at http://www.c-speedracing.com

are you talking about valve timing, or ignition timing? ignition timing will not effect compression.

to be honest it could be worse, its most likely a valve timing issue, but it would be alot worse if it was like 180-180-50-170.

i believe the problem is whomever did the compression test sat in the car and held the gas pedal while cranking...
supposed to be a 2 man job with one actually holding the throttle body wide open while the other sits in the car and cranks, *WITH ECU FUSE AND BACKUP FUSE OUT OF ENGINE BAY FUSE BOX*

i do compression tests by myself all the time, i unplug the distributor, have the car at operating temperature, and i go and plug in tester in cyl 1 then sit in the car with gas all the way down and crank 8 times per cylinder, works perfect for me everytime

instead of holding gas down have someone else hold the throttle body wide open...or do it yourself and pop on the remote start if you have one

what do you think holding the throttle wide open will do compared to holding it wide open with your foot on the gas??? haha

maybe you're throttle cable is loose or when you press the gas is doesn't hold the throttle body wide open...
