Default Satin paint all cocked up

Painted my new rally car last night with Satin black rustoleum. Used my harbor freight HVLP gun. Lots of problems getting enough fluid and atomization.

Basically, the whole car looks textured with little drops of paint. The little drops never got together and laid flat, so it is pretty rough, orange peel.

Can I wetsand with 1000 grit to make it smooth and not orange peel city, or do I have to recoat?

I would hit it with 600 grit and recoat. I too work with the HF guns. It takes some time to get them to spray right. I find that thinning the paint more than recommended helps it flow out better, just be careful of sags.
