Distributor oil seal
I just replaced my distributor internal oil seal. Before I removed the old seal, it was sitting flushed with the inside walls of the distributor housing. After removing the seal, I find that the depth of the recess for the seal deeper than the thickness of the replacement seal. I reinstall the seal without using the entire depth of the recess. Is this correct or am I suppose to press the seal all the way into the recess? Just checked if there is an oil leak and I felt a small drop of oil at the lower bolt of the distributor cap. Could it be a result of the seal not sitted properly?
Are you sure that you got the right seal. Its been quite a while since I did mine and I don't remember checking the depth I just reseated it flush like the oem one was. I did have what I thought was a oil leak after I was done it turned out to be just residual oil from the leak. Did you clean all the oil off everything really well, replace the dist cap, dist cap seal, and last but not least the O ring seal for the dist where it meets the head?
I cleaned it real good at the mating surfaces. I just reinstalled it the way I found the old seal after opening the distributor. I'll monitor it for awhile and see if the leak persists. Might just be residual oil.
