obd1 and obd2 respectively. ive heard that the 2nd gen is just a better engine(diff. subtle changes). and there is an a1 but mostly just call it 1st and 2nd gen. and the a2 is just from the 99-00 si. also there is the cable and hydro tranny diff. the 2nd gen(not the b16a2) jdm b16a has a cr that is .2 higher. it also makes 10 more hp, 5 more ft/lb in japan(some of this due to better gas).

oook
im gonna clarify that entire paragraph
1) there is no such thing as b16a1. its b16a. ALL the japanese b16's are b16a.
2) there are 2 diffrent versions of the b16a. the first gen b16, (88-91) is obd 0, has a diffrent intake manifold (i think), lower compression, and a less agressive cam, also is cable operates clutch)
3)the second gen b16 goes from 92-96, is odbI
4) the b16a2 is from the US 99-01 civic SI. it is obd II
5) the b16a3 is from the US del sol vtec. it is obd I

in the usdm del sol, yes
the second gen b16 can also be b16a2 (99 si) or b16a (jdm)

but make no mistake, just because it says b16a dosent mean its a second gen.

I have seen the markings on the 90-91 civic vti (euro version of SiR) that have b16a1 stamped on the block. These were only rated at 150 hp. Another thing is the first gen b16 and second gen b16 are sometimes referred to (when talking swaps) as the SiR I and SiR II respectively (since that's what cars they were from in Japan).

quick question, is the 2nd gen b16a obd2?
Actually, when it comes to US & JDM B16A blocks, all it really breaks down to is the pistons; All US B16A's, that's 92-01, have PR3 pistons (10.2cr) which in contrast are are only used in the JDM 89-91 (or 1st gen) B16A's. All of the 92+ JDM B16A's have the slightly higher comp, P30 pistons (10.4cr).

So, if you buy a set of P30 pistons, slap em in your US block, you'll be up to par with JDM 92+ b16a blocks.

My 1993 del Sol has a B16A2 engine with ODB I ECU.
Ok ok, i live in Austria/Europe. (we had the del Sol DOHC VTEC since 1992 with B16A2 Engine in it.)

Just my $0.02
