Default What do these bolts do (suspension)?

So...I've had a problem with a slight shake around 50MPH. Had all 4 wheels balanced and the problem slowly came back. So I took a look around and noticed these two bolts that were pretty much all the way loose. It looks like they support part of the lower control arm, and was suprised to see them both loose...

What do these bolts do? Are they supposed to be loose? Would it cause front wheels to get slightly out of balance?

(EDIT: And I recently had my A/T replaced at dealer and I'm not sure if this was something they forgot to tighten back...b/c this would be the 5th and 6th thing I found that wasn't how it was supposed to be after them working on it)

TIA

i honestly don't know about those bolts dude. but if they're there and was built with the car the should be tightened at least all the way and not torqued. i think that's another nono.

I would guess the bolts backed out as a result of the shaking, not the cause of the shaking.

How old are your tires? Sometimes if they're old and/or they haven't been rotated regularly, they'll get uneven wear that no amount of balancing will fix.

The tires are about 3500 miles old. I rotated them at about 3000 miles when I changed my oil last.

When I first bought the car, it drove fine. Then it started developing a bad vibrate. The tires were old so I bought new tires. The new tires drove great till I rotated them, then the vibration came back, but not as bad.

IDK...

My advice is... you need to bitch out whoever worked on your car last.

Those bolts are for holding the sub-frame although not the main bolts (4) those 2 are for the subframe however Those being loose should not cause a steering shimmy at highway speeds. If you have balanced your wheels then it could be a bent rim or possibly a broken belt in the tire. Rotate the tires back and if it goes away then you have 1 of those 2 problems with either 1 or both tires

You two are hilarious.

Those two bolts are for stability during sub-frame removal and installation. Are they entirely necessary? No. Would I have them fully run-in? Without a doubt. As-is, they're not a huge security measure, but I would run them in for the sake of not having something to worry about.
