i have a 93 eg hatch and my key recently got stuck in the second position. when i disconnect the battery, the key comes right out. as soon as i connect the battery and stick the key in to start it it gets stuck in the second position again until i disconnect the battery. if anybody knows whats wrong or how i could fix it let me know.

do you have an auto? is your key old?

 

no i have a 5 speed b18a1 and the key is kinda old its the only one that came with the car but it comes out no problem when the battery is disconnected

 

go to the dealer and get a new key made. they willl cut you a new one that is not worn down. then see if that fixes the problem

 

never heard of a problem like this. All the keys that I ever had wear down you could pull out in any key possion even with the car running. There shouldn't be anything that locks the key that would electrical

 

yah i dont know what the deal is but something must happen when the battery is connected

 

I just had a thought you got this car used with a b18 swap I bet they did an auto to stick conversion. If that is the case then the computer has to know that the auto transmission is in park before it will let you turn the key to a position that allows you to remove it. I bet that what ever was done to defeat this lock out has come unhooked and the car thinks it is in gear keeping the key locked in the ignition
