open header or muffler?
i got a header and was thinking about going open header cuzz of the missing 3-4 inch gap but what would be better if i was to gain power out of?

No i would not recommend running open header
What 3-4 inch gap are you talking about?
At the end of your header it doesn't bolt directly up to the exhaust or what?

Most likely you have to get a piping for where the resonator would be on your stock exhaust piping.
When I got my full catback exhaust system and header for my 94 teggy, i had a gap as well... the piping for resonator portion fixed it.

i just posted this somewhere else.....
removing the header for a semi stock car would have minimal to zero gains.
your ecu uses data from exhaust to decides how much gas / air is used so the fuel mixture will be off at any given rpm.
removing header and exhaust would only make your car louder and slower.
(be prepared to run more lean with your first choice)
back pressure is equally important for a more efficient running engine.
if you think about it engine designers have to factor how fast combustion pushes out of the exhaust, it is not free flowing, the exhaust piping is 2-2.5 inches for a reason.
(the gains will be minimal, and depending on mods loss of power is also possible)
both choices are bad ideas,
both are going to be annoying( extremely loud). unless your car is heavily modified and for track.
dont do anything until you have all the correct parts for the system.

i was thinkin about just puting on the header then go to a muffler shop and ask them to do a extension? adding a extra pipe with nutz and screws for about 40 dollar
umm if you live in socal and run around with an open header you will have a friggen swat team pulling you over in about 2 mins.
plus you would lose hp so it is bad all the way around.

I ran open header on my car for about 2 weeks while I waited on new header to cat bolts to come in. I liked it, I pissed off most of my neighbors (most of them are stuck up anyway) gained some power. But then again my car isn't stock or daily driven.
swat team!!! and pissing of the neighbor own!!! love it but i got to put my header and stuff in by next week i just got a est, of how much it will cost and the guy said i put it in my self and he charge 40 haha so pretty good price.!
