Default type R pistons in GSR block

I have my head off, and I figured while I have my head off I should drop the bottom and replace bearings and rings. Well I got to thinking maybe I should put some pistons in also. What would happen if I put forged pistons in my block without machining it?

Are there any decent oem style type R pistons under 300 bucks for a set? (are RS machines any good)

why dont you just buy some JDM itr pistons and rings...they go for like 275 or something like that on Ebay.

As for the RS machines, ive heard good things about them.

You might as well keep it OEM and just go with some JDM p73-00 pistons. Compression will be bumped up to about 11.59 or so with nothing else done. With a 2 layer head gasket, you can be in the 11.8 range, which will yield very good results if you decide to build the head for more power.

If you want to keep the motor stock, then some usdm type r pistons would be fine.

my head is already built. It has buddy club dual vavle springs, stage IV cams, retainers, buddy club cam gears, and a power fc stand alone. I just need a port and polish job.

well if youre head is already built you need to put new, higher compression pistons in the block, or you will overcam the motor. Those cams are pretty aggressive so theres no way that you can run those without doing some more work to the block.

jdm itr p73-00 pistons would benefit you.

I heard lots of good things about them from my machinist. He does work on lots of beefed up domestics and in the last 10 years or so started doing a lot of import builds and he highly reccomends the total seal rings if you're serious about extracting every last bit of power.
