Default Skunk2 cam users ... Enter here! Have some questions.

I'm leaning towards the Skunk2 stage 1 cams for my 2.0 GSR motor. However, I'm scared/worried about their quality control. I'm hearing mucho stories about them breaking. The other cam choice is the CTR. I'm more comfortable with OEM quality.

For those who have Skunk2 cams (stage 1) - how many miles have you put on them? Any problems? Will I have problems running ITR valvetrain?

Also - let me hear some numbers you guys pulled with the Stage 1 cams.

Adam

i have the stage 1's in my GSR. i used to have ITR cams. there is a huge differnce in mid range and top end. the skunks are bad ***. i am running on my stock GSR valvetrain, which is fine as long as i dont raise the redline. i havent dyno'd since i had them, but ive had them for about 10,000 miles now with no issues.

all aftermarket cams have a history or chance of breakage. its very rare, but it happens.

That was a long time ago, when the first batch came out. And they were not breaking, they were wearing on the valvetrain.

But all that has been corrected now and you should be fine with the stage 1 (IMO I would go for bigger cams)

I have had Stage 2's for like 3000 miles rev'ed to 9650 with 12.2:1 CR and have not had any problems.

Skunk2 cams are made of the same material as the CTR cams that honda makes, to ensure quality.

CTR cams are good also lots of midrange torque.

I have 7000 miles on my stage 1's and they are fine. I have stock idle and gained over 20hp after tuning.
