Default $400 in labor, wtf?

400 in labor is what I got quoted from my favorite mechanic to fix why my car wont go into gear.

He's insisting that I replace everything with a full clutch kit...pilot, tob, pressure plate, disc...**** man.

I got hosed on this car hardcore...

$400 doesn't sound too bad if you think about what hes got to do to replace all that stuff. but thats only if that fixes it. while its apart, check the shift fork, cause when i picked up my crx, the shift fork was bent and almost wouldn't go into gear.

x2

it would prob cost u just as much to do it all yourself. the guy that does all my work actually isnt charging me labor, just parts, and so far, i have spent 1700 within 2 weeks

Plus the cost of the clutch kit. So another $215 bucks.

I got the mechanic I bought the car from to help me out though, $30 an hour.

$400 buck labor is about right.... my cousin paid $1200 for parts and labor for a clutch job on his VW GTI...But the whole motor had to come out.

Yeah, that really doesn't sound like an obnoxious price to pay for that job. You don't usually go in there and not replace everything, he's smart for suggesting you change it all at once.

However, you have one of the easiest cars to work on in the world , IMO it would be a good chance to get to know it and change the clutch yourself if you have the means to do it!
