Default How to raise Rev Limiter

I have a 91 civic with a sohc ZC swapped, running OB0.

First off this is a RACE CAR ONLY. It is strictly an oval track race car. Has cage/fully stripped of everything.

I need to know how to raise the rev limiter on it. I've searched and haven't came up with any answers on how to do this. Everyone says don't do it etc...well I need a few extra RPMS at the end of the straights to run 2nd gear. Although I won't be making any power up top, I need the power off the corners and shifting disrupts the car too much to do that.

So how can I up the Rev limiter on my car?

Thanks in advance!

Kyle

Though I am uncertain, I think you would just need to get an eBay chip or anything like that installed in your ECU. Hopefully someone else can chime in and correct me or further explain.

Any pics of your race car?

You probably need to chip it, but i would be careful with that... Once my 89 crx si went past the rev limiter in 3rd gear(i think its related to a vacuum leak) and the car was going over 90 in third. What was bad about it was the car instantly overheated, so im not sure if your car would overheat as well by upping the rev limiter.

Something I should have asked. What would be the most you would run the RPM too? I was thinking 8500 or 9k. Like I said it's a race car and I need the most out of second gear. If she blows up, she blows up, I got a spare motor in the garage.

Ofcourse I'd like to keep it from not blowing up, but what do you think is the highest you can go before you start to do some serious damage??

Thanks
Kyle

IM pretty sure u Lose power after 9k on a built dohc motor. Its probably not worth rasing the rev limiter on that car because u stop making power after so many rpms ne way. Just my .02. And it done mean its a race car cuz its gutted.

I'm not worried about losing powe up top.....what I really want/need is power off the corners and 3rd gear is simply too low to get any kind of power off of 2 and 4. By going with a higher rev limiter, I'm hoping the power I get off of 2 and 4 will help me more than the power I lose at the end.....

Thats a tough call, generally the rev limiter is there because any higher and you would start doing damage, the red line is where the car stops making power, have u considered using stronger internals? Your best bet would be a chip that raises the rev limiter and also adjusts the fuel ratio accordingly, at least if somebody thoguht that part out you might have a better chance of not killing your car.
