Default 87 octane in my tank what should i do

my mom took my car to work because hers was broken. i thought i had enough gas in the tank so i did not tell her that i have to run 93 octane. well she decided to do me a favor and fill it up, but with 87 octane. i am only boosting 5psi on a stock d16y8. will i be safe or should i just not boost at all and try to ride it out. *Not boosting is hard for a boost addict.

any sugestions

try to drain most of it out with a siphon (**spelling**) or a hose and after the tank is almost empty fill it up with 93 and you should be safe even if there's still a little bit of 87 octane in there....i wouldn't try to drive without boosting to ride the gas out ...i mean what happens if you forget about it and go into boost **** might start detonating and you could seriously mess something up.

hope this could be of any help.

I would also remove the 87 octane gas. On my car, there is a drain plug in the fuel tank, you should be able to get most of it out that way.

I'd dump in some octane booster before I drained or siphoned it out.

if u didnt have a drain plug you could probly run a wire from positive terminal of the battery to the fuel pump power and then disconnect the fuel line at the fuel rail and pump the gas out. had to mention it even though theres likely an easier way.

use care when handling stinky gasoline.

I tried running octane booster for awhile with mixed results. I was having some detonation issues, and the gas available in AZ is only 91 max. I put in some octane booster prior to a trip from Phoenix to the Grand Canyon, and had no detectable detonation. However, on the return trip, I could only get 88 octane at this podunk little gas station. I thought "no problem, I've got octane booster", and added it to my newly filled tank. It did not stop tip-in detonation. Also, when I checked my plugs, they had heavy deposits of chocolate-brown colored stuff. I gave up on octane booster. Drain your gas, give it to your buddy and his n/a car!

I agree w/ your view of octane booster... however i fail to see how his friends n/a car would be better off w/ the 87 **** gas. Course it'd be a different story if his friend was unmodified but who in this day and age is?

If you can drain your tank and you don't mine it then do it. Or you could pull off you're charge pipe and not boost.

you could undo the banjo bolt on the fuel filter if you want, and dump out the 87 from there, put some 93 in the filter, and siphon** the rest out from the tank...

i wish!! i have an open wg and it bypasses the o2 sensor

*removing the charge pipe can over rev the turbo

i think i will do the trick pumping it out at the fuel rail.

don't drain it...thats such retarded advice

Just turn the boost way down if you have a boost controller or remove the steel ring if you have a tial wg....botttom line find some way of not boosting and drive you car a lot until you're at 1/4~1/8 tank then fill it up with high octane gas with a couple of bottles of octane booster..

There's no need for this sort of thing. If you want to offer alternative advice, that's fine. Just keep the juvenile comments to yourself.

Yeah to be on the safe side retard your timing and try not to boost. Or you can call your NA buddies over and siphon your gas to thier tank. Either way just be careful.

i hooked up a hose to the out put on my fpr. from there i stuck it into a 5 gal gas can. i just started my car and it ran for about 30 min, i filled up almost 2 5 gal cans. i am leaving now to pick up some octane booster and a full tank of 93. it is all gravy now!!

There is need for it when the advice is just plain stupid! I can't believe the lack of common sense on this board sometimes, and it irritates me!...My comment aren't juvenile...Where are you going to drain 10~13 gallons of gas?....where are you going to put it ...c'mon...think! Give some practical and realistic advice that's easy....not boosting is best and most obvious solution....just use the gas up as carefully as you can...

my civic tank holds about 11gals of gas. i have a 5 gal gas can. i filled one up and put it in my sisters car and the last 5 gallons of gas i just left in the can. it worked for me!! it really was not that stupid of an idea.
