Default question about gauge cluster...

I've got a '98 Civic DX Hatch and I was wondering if anyone knew what my options as far as factory clusters go... I want to replace the existing one with something with a tach and a little style....

try the 96-98 EX clusters, direct fit, and I also believe the 99-00's are the same as well, someone will have to chime in for that. I've put many clusters in the 96-98's with 96-98 parts, but never did put a 99-00 in a 96-98 or vis versa.

Thanks everyone.
You do mean the SI from the coupes of the same time, right? (I think they're the EM generation?)
And where do you think I could find one?

i just recently changed my 97 DX cluster with no tach with an EX cluster that has one. i also swapped out the speedometer so that my odometer mileage is the original.

it was an easy job but you have to proceed carefully to avoid breaking plastic clips. the only tool you need is a philips screwdriver

and forget about SI ones those cost like $300 i paid $97 for mine on ebay inc. shipping. you only get SI cluster if you have a B engine swap, if you just want the tach EX is plenty fine. and you can always change the bezel inside the cluster with aftermarket ones for like $20.

Check Craigslist for the cluster too. I picked up my SI cluster for 100 Bucks and it only had 33K miles.

"EM" isn't a generation.

The cluster the other person was talking about is the '99-'00 Civic Si (EM1).

You have no idea what you're talking about.

Si clusters cost about $100-150.

You CAN use them with a D-series engine.

CR-Vs cost abotu the same (the manual ones at least). Even though the '97-'01 CR-V came with a B-series, you can still use it on a D-series Civic too. I have one on my Civic with a D-series and it works fine. It plugged right in.

OP, any of the following will work:
'96-'00 Civic (ANY of them)
'97-'01 CR-V (no modification either)

There are others, but judging by the level of confusion already, I'm not going to try to explain a bunch of models you've never heard of.

Here's some information on what Civics in the US came with which cluster options.

Source: Honda EPC. If I didn't list a cluster accessory, it's because it wasn't listed in the EPC under that trim for that year.

I've listed next to the trims what transmissions are available for those trims.

**Please take note that for cars that are available in both manual and auto/cvt, it seems that those cars list a tachometer regardless of if the selected transmission is a manual or not.</TD></TR></TABLE>
