Sounds like you want to spend your money wisely. Get a generic SRI arm off ebay and a high quality air filter (K&N, AEM, Injen, etc).

An intake is an intake. A CAI may get you better gains (maybe 1-2hp) but you'll have to think twice about driving in the rain. A SRI will give more throttle response than a CAI and peace of mind driving in the rain, even through puddles.

I live in Oregon with a CAI and no problems. You just have to stay out of the ruts and not be stupid about it.

Why do you say better throttle response on a short ram intake?

I heard that SRI's perform better than a CAI at the dyno, in normal conditions.

My guess is probably because the water level wasn't high enough to come contact with your intake.

Well on a cold night, the CAI might make more significant difference than on normal driving conditions. SRI just have faster response because of the proximity to the IM. While on this topic, anyone know if ARC is decent, or are they super-over priced garbage?

I heard that the short ram intake brings in to much hot air due to where the filter is located.

ARC super induction box owns all.........

and as for cold air vs. short ram
the cold air will give you some more peak HP and top end while the short ram will give you better throttle response but after a while sucks up alot of hot air due to it being so close to the header. i had a cold air liked it but it broke due to bad motor mounts and it hitting the car and the short ram i have know feels kida sluggish on a hot day and up top on the powerband.

i say either is fine personally im in the market for an ARC box .

why arc owns all? when i did my research before i bought my mugen intake (now sold) is that the arc is very similar to a sri. after (x) amount of hours driving the mugen intake is not guna be as hot compared to the arc because the arc is metal casting vs CF.

i dont expect my car to perform at its peak after hours of driving.
also i think the mugen box looks too plain for the price and i just prefer the ARC over the mugen

i do agree that arc is more on the bling factor and if thats what your or the TS is looking for than thats the only one out in the market. performance wise mugen > arc.

jesus. this debate has been discussed time after time again.

an intake is an intake. your not gonna notice any difference between a sri or cai. you can't go wrong wit either.

My guess, its easier for air to get "sucked" to the throttle body in a short ram since its less distance & quicker for air to travel into the engine. Where a cold air (typically longer piping) would need to travel a little further distance in order for the engine to get air.

I can vouche for the Injen SRI. Its on ebay now for less than $175 I think. I paid $200+ for mine a year ago, buy one now. Makes the 3500-5800 range really nice and throaty, and when vtec kicks in, you know it. Real nice intake for the $

Wrong. I had an Injen SRI and a AEM cold air on my '05 Type S and I preferred the AEM. The Injen always got heatsoaked driving around in traffic in Florida whereas the AEM always had instant power. The bog of the Short ram drove me crazy.

No disrespect, but thats not enough evidence, it could all be placebo. Unless you have dyno charts and time slips, its hard to back up.

None taken. I understand what you're saying. I think there is very little difference between the two as far as hp. It's not like I noticed a dramatic difference when switching between the two but when I drove around in traffic with the AEM I did notice the power seemed more constant.

And I'm not the only one who has experienced heat bog with a short ram on a Type S.
