dont look at the psi you can run but the hp that the engine will handle, a b7 can handle 180-200whp if its tuned properly and the motors in healthy condition

bump

I also have a 1992 dx and am planning on running 6psi. Are upgraded injectors/fuel pump necessary? At this low of a boost is a system such as hondata + tuning necessary or will a fuel management unit such as the vortech 12:1 work just fine?

Don't mean to hijack but I think these questions apply to the original poster as well

Most of the D-series guys hang out in this thread. There's a lot of good information.

A good ecu tune is recommended on any boost application. Chrome or something might be a cheaper way to go than hondata but still way better than an f.m.u. (vortec 12:1). I'd recommend getting find what tune you want to do, then find the person that you'd like to tune it and what their opinion is for fuel. I ran a d15b7 with a walboro pump and mazda mx6 gt injectors (320's I think) with an fmu and apexi safc and it blew in three months on 8 lbs, but my setup was an intention blow up for some testing on parts (motor was already trashed, running on 3.5 cylinders ). A good tune is the best thing to do. A buddy just had his d16z6 tuned on 10 lbs. via neptune and it hit 189whp stock fuel system (I'm over a mile above sea level). Motor runs strong and still hasnt shown any signs of giving out yet.

as long as you're running low boost u really shoudnt have to worry about much...its not about the boost..its about the power..but low boost equals a lower power level..after you boost it just make sure you get it on a dyno or get a wideband reading on it just to be sure that you're getting enough fuel..the only reason you wouldnt be though would be a failing fuel pump or a blockage or sumthin like that..a fuel riser would be your best bet..the cheapest way to go..yea you could run crome or sumthin like that but then you risk blowin up your motor more with running that because who knows where the tune will be..the basemap may be way off then you'll have to pay someone to tune it..with the fuel riser you basically just hook it up and you're good to go..i myself boosted my stock D16Z6 and made really good power..about 220whp at 9psi..stock fuel pump..stock injectors..fuel pressure regulator..etc..put it on the dyno and had more than enough fuel..i was running that on a greddy blue box though..its kinda like an electronic fuel riser that greddy made..you should be ok wit something like 5-7 psi..give the car a nice kick..lol..wit low boost like that i dont believe a tune is necessary unless its running crazy rich and breaking up and fouling out spark plugs..my setup was untuned and made 220whp which is crazy..but good luck man..if ya need any help or anything dont be scared to ask....

i wonder if some of these ppl even had turbo hondas....

dont turbo your car if you arnt prepared to replace your motor or go without transportation.

its just how boosting a honda works, or any NA vehicle for that matter

what i would do, if i was you... is pick up a D16 from the junk yard, do a side build on that bad boy, and when its ready drop it in and boost to the moon...

HOWEVER, FJT is making a d15b2/7 kit soon for vitaras. should be a killer cheap go fast combo

are you going to pay someone to do all the work or are you going to boost it yourself? that also has a lot to do with how reliable your setup will be

I'm installing my kit + FMIC tomorrow.
Planning on getting a Walboro upgraded fuel pump as well as the vortech 12:1 fmu and throwing it on a dyno.

Injectors and tuning will follow if the dyno turns out with bad air/fuel
