just put ac belt on and its humming now, is this normal?

Default just put ac belt on and its humming now, is this normal?
when i bought my car it had no belt so i just put one on and it makes a humming sound and the ac kicks on and off.. do i need a new compressor?

You should have a pro test it before you just replace it.

AC will cycle on/off as needed.
Dose it blow cold air ?

Or just cycle quickly ?
