this is for auto cross im guessing. I don't think there would be much of a difference between a 4.4 and a 4.7.

side note: if this was GDD this thread would have taken a much more inappropriate turn

The BEST option is a USDM ITR tranny with a different FD swapped in. The USDM had a smaller jump between 3rd and 4th gear, and is much easier to find. Then spend $300 for a FD, and you're good. I did a brand new OEM ITR tranny from Acura, swapped out the stock LSD to a Quaife, and an MFactory 4.9 FD, couldn't be happier.

For off the shelf being the best, I think USDM or JDM are just as good, the JDM one will have better gearing 1st, 2nd, 3rd though, which may be better for Auto-X

Its an autoX car, he isn't going to see 4th gear.

I'd say it really depends on what your local courses look like, or if it is a national class what they tend to be.

ITR trannys tend to be too much money for what they are. It is a B16 tranny with a diff, that should be replaced any ways.

And you really only care about 2nd and 3rd gear, maybe a hybrid transmission would be your best bet.

I like Kaaz, never used anything else and don't really plane on it.

If you search around OBX is not something i would think you would want in your transmission

That is a pretty generalized question. The FD could make a huge difference, it all depends on what gearing your starting with.

Autocrossing, probably not that much of a difference. Check this calculator out

Use one of the online gear calculators.

But you need to decide on a tire size!!!! That can change alot the 4.7 could be a problem with a low redlining LS with boost.

Yes 49 MPH is a little low when we were running a STS 91 Civic, and with our 88 CRX Si in STS2 trim whe would pop off the revlimiter every now and then... which was higher than 49MPH. Plus in SM you may want to run R-compound at some point too. There is no right answer to this just things to think about..

Best of luck!

next season i am going to getting R comps i just got theres tires last year and they still have good tread on them so i wanted to finish these first. i think im going to shout for something with a 4.4 fd that would put me at around 55.

I would shoot for gearing that puts the top of 2nd gear at about 65mph, any less and you'll be bouncing off the rev limit or wishing you had time to shift to 3rd for a split second. You have to consider the combination of transmission gears, final drive, your rev limit, and tire diameter. The Fatboy calculator mentioned above is your friend.
