Inner tie rod problems
does anyone on here have a easier way of changing the inner tie rod for a dc2. i was told that you wouldnt have enough room to work with to get it out. so the only way is the take out the motor to have enough room to work. anyone have any other way instead of having to take the motor out? thanks
ive not done it on a DC2, just a crx with manual rack.
i imagine its similar tho.
the issue is the lock washer that you have to bend over the tabs that you need room to work at.
i always suggest you take the steering rack out completely on a CRX because its just that much easier, but you CAN do it while its in the car. you certainly do NOT have to remove the engine. but just the axles and swaybar and control arm get in the way of working on it.
i say give it a shot but prepared to work on it for a while trying to find out how to get to the lock washer and such. if youre not confident in your skills or dont have the time to take a chance it may take a while, then hire someone. any skilled technician shuld know what to do.

i got quoted at leschwab 249 for replacing inner and outers in a ek si and i decided to to myself and i replaced all of them since i was already doing one just in case **** happend i didnt have to deal with it again so total for parts was 130 at shuck's with lifetime warranty and it took me no more than 2 hours to do both shuck's rented me this inner tie rod ends tool. so it made it even easier..so if u decide to do it yourself dont forget to get an alignment u can count how many turns it takes to get the outer one out and put the other one back in with that many turns that simple that so ur alignmetn is not way too off but u still need to go to shop to get an alignment done its no more 50 bucks

Is this the same concept as a 96 Honda Civic LX?
If I am having problems with my inner tie rods can I still drive the car or is it not safe?

I was messing around with the steering wheel and noticed some play in it. Only the driver wheel moves during the play and not the passenger wheel. So I toke the Civic to Les Schwab. They checked it out and said that the inner tie rods would need to be replaced.

sure, it could be a danger if its really bad and get disconnected. not likely. but its a very good idea to get it replaced asap. make sure other bushings and balljoints are in good condition too. if one balljoint goes bad, others are likely bad.
