tach needle not moving, use to bounce sometimes but worked fine....possible ignitor aka igniter ?
Hey All,
my questions is could the ignitor be causing this issue (see below) or could it be a loose wire?
So first sometimes my tach needle would jump randomly and quickly, the revs of the engine sounded normal, just the needle was off. I though this is usually a symptom of the ignitors in the dizzy going bad.
Anyway while cruising the other day i took the tach to redline and then the needle suddenly dropped to 0 and has never moved since.
The car starts and runs fine, the needle just doesn't move.
ideas?
ps: i have a viper alarm and i'm not sure if they had to tap it for a tach signal and maybe that could be where a loose wire is?

I don't think the igniter can cause that? Maybe you could borrow a good dizzy for a little bit to see if it's that... otherwise loose wire or dead tach gauge.
I don't think your alarm would have any tach signal.

pulled the dizzy cap off, and the blue wire to the igniter was disconnected, so i connected it and all is well.
so when it was loose it must have caused the bouncing, and when it fell of it stopped working.
since this blue wire just goes to the tach and not to the ECU the car ran fine the whole time, even vtec kicked in so i knew the ecu knew the revs
