Looking at building up an engine.
I'm just doing some initial research because I plan on building up a project car in a couple years. I was thinking about just going with a B series engine, but possibly a nice D series.
What all needs to be changed to build up an engine? I would like to be able to put a turbo on it if I want to, but not really planning to at first. I would like an all motor car but not sure the best way to do that. Anybody have any good guides to rebuilding a Honda engine?
Again, just kind of looking for a direction for my upcoming project so I don't get into a mess lol. I would like to take my time and do it the best I can, but I'm not interested in a drag car by any means. I just want something that could be driven happily everyday, or go to a car show hehe.

The best advice anyone can give you is Build it once for its purpose if your going to go turbo you need to put low compression pistons if it is going to N/A you would want High Compression Pistons. So build it for its purpose measure twice pay once
Alright, but what kind of things should I be replacing. Seriously, I am a noob with engines but would like to make this a learning experience.
Pistons, rods, camshaft? Just not sure what all would be good to change to performance parts.

Well start with basics and work your way from the bottom up. Get a block have it cleaned and decked or if your gonna have it sleeved. Crank bearings, oil pump and front and rear main seals then your rods you can go with after market rods and pistons which you should get new rod bearings and piston rings. Then with the head a simple port and polish valves, valve springs, retainers and new valve stem seals then cams and cam gears. Also water pump and head bolts depending on what your preferece is after that headers intake manifold throttle body fuel rail fuel injectors. ITS GONNA COST YOU but always build the bottom once you can take the head off alot its quick.
I realize it's gonna cost me. That's why I'm not jumping into it right now. I gotta have goals and my goal within the next 3 years is to start working on something like this. I want to build up a hatch to seem like a new car
The DD hatch just doesn't do itself justice.
