Default Vlang29's H23VTEC Rebuild

So here's my situation:
https://honda-tech.com/zerothread/2281315

thought i'd start a new topic since this isn't exactly oil pressure issues anymore...

A few mains were beginning to flake, and the one was burnt pretty good. The crank is toast.. The bearing oil grove is actually imprinted into 180* of the crank.. I don't know what the limits are of what a machine shop can (realistically) do to save the crank, but i don't think it's salvageable. I really can't believe this thing was running as good as it was.

My original plan was to re-use the 95mm crank and use my JDM H22 pistons i have laying around. With a .045 headgasket, this would put me about 11.1:1, which i am thinking to be about right for me.

but the biggest problem, of course, is that my financial situation doesn't exactly yield "just send me a bill when you're done" kind of machine work.

The H22A4 short block i found locally for $300 turned out to be an SH block. After digging in the H/T archives i found what it takes to make the intermediate shaft work, so i'm starting to lean a little towards just grabbin that SH, slappin on my H22A head and M2B4 and be done.

I know i would really love that high comp 95mm build, but my current financial situation could be a bit hampering... Without selling my soul and my beer fridge, the most i can spend is appx. $6-700. I have a hunch that this budget is no longer going to cover the 95mm build...

ANY COMMENTS OR RECOMMENDATIONS/SUGGESTIONS ARE WELCOMED!

I'll also add that the motor had plenty of oil when scat hit fan, i have run mobil 1 full syn since i bought the car at 133,000. It was run out of oil once, at around 190K, when the oil cooler seal blew competely out. (lost all 5 quarts in 2 miles!!) But i haven't had any issues until now, 255,000mi.

It has been a quite strong motor too, I know g-tech's aren't very accurate, but I did a run when she was at about 240,000 showed me at 14.0@102.1, on scab tires in the winter.

For your viewing entertainment:

That ridge in the middle of the main journal is only present 180* degrees crank rotation.. other side looks fine!

i estimate that ridge to be appx .025-.035"!!! It is ridiculous!

toasty toasty

i got the crank out now, and more bad news.. the saddle is totally wasted. It is mushroomed over the edge enough that you can see it with the naked eye.

wow, thats really bad. if you ran the block home with no oil that would explain those smoked bearings.

there only one thing that can reip the third bearing layer off like that. HEAT! were they OEM or ACL bearings? you probably got the groove from the bearing material getting into the oil groove and i guess notching the crank. that sucks, but the 180 degrees is still kinda weird.
