doin' a swap
hmmmmm, i have the money and i'll soon have an engine, tranny and ecu but i still have a few questions left unaswered. i'm going to attempt a swap myself of an h22 into a fourth gen accord with a 5spd. i've never done this before and so i really know only a little of what i'm about to get myself into. what will i need to do this almost painlessly? i know i need a wiring diagram for the vtec but my biggest problem is do i need anything extra to make the tranny work like different length cables and are all the engine mounting points the same in both bays or am i going to have move and reweld the engine mounts? if so, does HASport have a kit for this swap? will the throttle body location be close enough to the same to use my CAI already on the car and will i have any clearance problems with my strut brace and the new engine? one last question is, although i doubt there will be, but will there be any clearance problems with the other engine periferals like the A/C compressor, alternator and power steering pump?i have yet to see another accord with the swap already done so i haven't been able to address these problems yet and the local shop isn't a great help either. oh yeah, and how much heavier is the h22 than an f22a6 and does it change the handling characteristics of the car? if you've done this before on your own, please share everything you know. thanks a lot. and exactly how much fun is a 200+ HP Accord? hehe
First, get a Helms manual for both a 4th gen Accord and a 4th gen Prelude. Then go to http://www.h22a.org and you will be set. I recommend you get the F22B1 engine harness, but it will be fine if you are willing to add the wires necessary. You will not have any clearance problems unless your car has been in an accident, in which case I wish you luck.
i wasn't expecting to be able to bench press this thing into place. i'm getting help from an uncle who's done this sort of thing many times over with his own vehicles. he should have just about everything we need or access to what he doesn't. thanks for the help though guy.
Mechanically and physically it's pretty much a direct drop/bolt in.
Depending on with motor you get (there are at least 4 different H22s you can buy) you may have to swap some ignition parts.
I think the easiest swaps are the USDM H22A1 and JDM H22A.

i was wanting to install the h series tranny. my present would need a little work if i was going to keep it. it'll stay N/A for a long time since i'm still in college. 3-4g is kinda hard to come by for a turbo ya know. i was going to try and stick with usdm to help cut costs, but i was wanting as low a mileage engine as possible. i'm already dealing with the maintenance woes of a near 100k mile motor and i'd like to be able to do without those for a while.
