Default Chipped P28 ECU at 500$?

Hi, I have a friend that is selling his chipped P28 to me but he is asking 500$ for it because it was chipped by a knowledgeable person and it will definitely give me a decent HP gain. Is this a reasonable price for a chipped P28 ECU? What is the highest price that a chipped P28 would go.? Thanks.

I've seen P28 sells for as cheap as 60 bucks virgin...tuning from a reputable shop (around here) is about $130 dollars an hour, and it shouldn't take long to tune a car with little to no serious mods. So thats like buying a chip, and having your car on the dyno for 3 hours...

Then you have to keep in mind that both your cars *may* be different, as far as modifications and such goes. So whatever is optimal for his car may not be the same for yours.

Unless you both have the exact same car with the exact same power modifications, and you've driven his car and loved it, I would definitely say it is not worth $500, you could buy an ecu tuned by Spoon or Mugen or something of the like for that much (or cheaper).

If you want it that bad, offer him $125 and call it a day .

^^^^But like Nytosc said....phearable ftw.

Hell No! You can buy a chipped P28 for 175 or so at xenocron.com, you get some good basemaps with it too. If anyone's knowledgable with it would be the guys at xenocron. You don't want to put a chipped ECU in your car anyway unless you plan on getting it tuned, and forking over money for a tune on a nearly stock car is nearly pointless. Do some research and if you just want a few extra horsepower go intake, header, exhaust.

You own:

'05 Civic DX made EX w/ D17A1
'91 CRX Si w/ ZC SOHC (SOLD)
'99 Civic EX made Si w/ B16A

a pair of swapped civics, and you don't know how much a chipped P28 should sell for? You need to get out of the honda game, like now.

Tunes are different for every car, and every motor, no 2 are identical, so his 'AMAZING' tune may suck on your car.

Did it ever run through your mind that he possibly could have bought them already swapped?

I already read all 8 of his other posts before posting, I know one of the cars he bought already swapped, Regardless, you should learn about the car before buying swapped or pre-modded cars.

To the OP:

Engine swaps range from $1000-1200 for B18/B20 swaps, and upwards of 1500-2000 for B16 swaps, and typically 2500+ for GSR/ITR swaps.

OBD1 ECU's are all 'the same' as far as getting them socketed for being tuned, so my socketed P05 ECU out of a 8 valve Civic CX, after being sent to phearable.net got changed to a P28 ECU for $125 and can be changed to work for any motor for $25 more for another chip.

No its not a good idea. Go get someone locally to tune your ECU. Just because you have a tuned ecu for one car, doesn't mean it will run the same on the other car. Trust me on this.
