ON my 90 civic Si i cant figure out what is wrong with my speedo. the speedo itself is in good working opperation but still nothing im trying to avoid dropping my tranny to see whats going on. Any ideas?

so you speedometer, and odometer doesnt work correct? if not replace the speedometer cable

 

the cable and sensor are fine. if you spin the gear on the end of the sensor the needle jumps. i heard that the gear that spins the speedo gear is plastic? and they have been known to brake. but to check i would have to drop my tranny. but im trying to see if anyone knows anything about it

 

oohhhh. you can pull out the vss on the tranny and see if its broken.

VSS - Vehicle Speed Sensor
If it looks good but you want to test it, take it out, put up to a multimeter 0-1 volt range and turn the pinion quickly and measure the voltage. It should be around .5 volts
Mine is broke. Driving with no speedometer really sucks.

 

yeah it does suck. but my 90 has a cable speedo. not a electric one
