Default My GSR is kicking out of VTEC...ECU problem???

Well I just got this 89 Hatch recently and it has a B18C1 swap, and VTEC will sometimes engage under 5000RPMS or sometimes over 5000...and it will kick out of vtec whenever it wants, and the motor wont rev over 7000 RPMS...so i went and checked the code on the ecu and its a PW0 which is a JDM B16A ecu...would this possibly be my problem??? If so, would I have to get another ECU, or could I have this one chipped??

are you sure its kicking out of vtec, with the ecu you have now your butterflies arent doing anything. maybe its doing something with them and your vtec isnt working at all. because 7000 is the cold/no vtec rev limit

Im not sure if its converted or not...I have a obd0 ecu so id say its not, And ive also noticed that this ecu is supposed to have 2 02 sensors and I only have 1...So lets say I converted it to 2 O2's and got the ecu chipped would it run fine???...

No having 2 o2's will make it run right but wont effect your vtec.

I'll state an obvious question. How is your oil level and pressure? You should also check your vtec filter.

Again obvious stuff.

As far as only revving to 7k, is it hitting fuel cutoff at that point?

Lets think really basic here. For Vtec to engage you need 3 things: You must reach operating temp, Mph over 35, and lastly....OIL PRESSURE

Oil pressure and temp are great...My oil level is perfect and doesnt leak or smoke at all...I drove it all night last night, and vtec will usually kick in at under 5000 and most of the time it will stay on until rev limit at 7000 rpms, but every once in a while it will kick out

I had a similar problem a while back. Just run 4 new wires for VTEC to the ECU. probably a bad harness. OR go through with an OHM meter
