Non-belt chirping
Hi guys,
Got a '92 Accord LX, Auto tranny (does it matter if it's red? :]). It's my folks' car, and I take care of it off and on (I own a Volvo, and you can find me on the Volvo boards). For a long while, there's been an odd 'chirp' while engine-braking or coasting - let's see if I can describe it and some other engine behavior:
It's much more bassy than a belt chirp, and can last from half a second to several seconds at a time. Happens especially when going at slow speeds - will go in and out. Rather loud, and has no apparent relationship with brakes, PS, or a particular gear - but is more common at low RPMs (coasting/engine breaking).
There's a rough idle that began when the chirp did. I was away at college at the time, and seems to have coincided with a new timing belt, water pump, and valve adjustment @ 150k. Gas mileage is a little on the low side, but I donno if that has to do with other old ignition parts or not (all city driving). Cap and rotor maybe 50k old, wires may be original.
Thanks, Honda-dudes!
