Bought a Distributor, not sure if it's what I think
Bought a full dizzy off a member on here and I was requesting an 88-91 civic or crx non-si dizzy for a 90 d15b2. Well, it came last week and when I went to put it on, i had to twist the connecting shaft a little back and forth to get it in the engine and then when I went to bolt it up, the holes are lined up but for some reason it seems a little bent. Doesn't want to sit flat up against the engine. So I tighten up all the bolts and plugged it in (which one by the way is a 5 pin and not a 7 pin) and the car wouldn't turn run, it would turn, but not run. So now I looked at both closely and they are definately both an obd0 but I noticied one small difference. On the side of the new dizzy, there is a little gold cylinder that has two wires coming out of it. Size of a peanut, it's attached on the front side alongside two other wires. The one that was on the car doesn't have this.
So what could it be?
So what could it be?
What is the serial number on the distributor, the one on my distributor is TD-01U and its for a D15B2, If thats what yours has on it then itll work.
the 5 pin is the correct distributor you asked for.. the 7 pin is for the si. The peanut thing, i have no idea, although my guess is that you have a honda destributor and not a rebuild or aftermarket, because i have only seen that gold thing on honda distributors.
As far as it not being flat, it sounds like something may not be right with it.. like the housing is warped or something, which is probably very not good. Additionally, if you inserted the shaft of the distributor incorrectly, it may cause it to appear not to sit flush, although you would really have to try hard to get that to happen. the distributor is keyed on an ofset so you cant (or shouldnt be able) to install it 180 degrees out, which may be what you did and why the car isnt firing, and why the distributor appears to not sit flush with the mounting points.

Ya know, I never thought about that. I never once thought that the shaft end could only be inserted one way. I mean, maybe I did have it flipped 180 degrees facing the other way and it wasn't attaching to the camshaft correctly. I know after wiggling it a little bit back and forth, it went in the hole but it didn't seem right. Crap, well let me go back over to my friends house and see what can happen. Can anyone else back this up?
it only goes in one way. there is two pronges on the dizzy shaft, they will only sit in the camshaft one way. good luck hope you geterdun.
Looked at the two pronges on the the shaft and they seem to be offset just slightly. I guess it's enough to not make it fit but that would explain why It wasn't flush against the engine. I'm going over today to try it again at my Girlfriends house so I'll see if the car will start up this time around!

I'm not actually sure. It's off by a little offset so I guess when I inserted it, I had it tilted, it went in and then I tried to bolt it up. So that's why it wouldn't stay flat up against the engine. Yeah I feel stupid but i learned something. Thanks for the information about what the peanut shape things meant! I guess it was an 89 dizzy that's now on a 90 civic!
