Painting suspension
I just picked up a four wheel disc conversion from a 94 GSR and I was wondering if anyone had any good information about painting everything?
There's some slight surface rust on a bunch of the pieces and the sway bars (also picked up) the paint is cracking off and there is surface rust.
I'm assuming that I want to remove the bushings and sand with 220?? then go up to around 800?? Primer with possibly Rustoleum's automotive primer? Then paint with some flat black or aluminum paint? then clear it?? Or just use some semi-gloss black paint? I plan to do a write up on this once I get all of the information I need for this.
Thanks!
Anthony

Strip it completely apart, sandblast it all with fine sand, prime it and base clear it...I would do them a dakr titanium grey or a charcoal...silver looks like crap if you you keep it perfectly clean all the time.

lol its suspension components for christs sake. there is no need to sandblast it, and clearcoat it.
the ONLY time I would say this would be appropriate is if you are building a show car.
sand it, wipe with acetone, paint it with black rustoleum and be done with it......

Or if you want it to look good...Whats wrong with taking a bit of extra time and going the extra step...the finished product is waaayy better. If you are happy with spray bombs then power to you, I am not, if I paint something I want it to look that little bit better..
aircraft stripper
scuff pad
acetone
primer
paint
clear
Did this to my front subframe. plan on doing it to the rest of the suspension.
Going in my street/strip car. shaved bay. Might do a couple local shows. No shame in having clean **** on your car. just one extra step to try to stand out. not many other people take the effort to pay attention to lil details even tho they will not be seen much

well if its a daily driver that clearcoat wont look too hot soon enough. and I did the truck the "spraybomb" way (its not spray bombing if you know how to spray paint correctly) and my suspension and frame looks brand new a year later, but whatever you say cheif

If you spray clear right and use the right poducts it will look great as long as you take care of it...but like I said if you are happy the way you do it, thats great, I just do mine differently, that's all.

might as well go with poly bushings.

You got your suspension apart. Might as well upgrade them then and there save you a headache down the road
