oh gosh
I looked into this too when I bought my CRX and was giving it a complete tuneup/rebuild. so I'll tell you what I found out, hope you don't mind:
1. some say gear oil (I found out this might be a big No)
2.some say synthetic motor oil (NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
3. transmission fluid ( has to be/say 'for use on cars where motor oil is recommended')
4. Everyone will tell you to get Honda manual transmission fluid from the dealer ( this is fine)
4. Gm synchromesh [General Motors manual transmission fluid] from a GM dealer (Even better)
5. penzoil synchromesh (same as GM supposedly iono)
6.Amsoil, Royal purple, Red line, Elf, and all other Manual transmission fluids from oil makers (these work good I hear)
7. In my case: I didn't know what to use; my repair manual says to just use 10w30 or 10w40 regular motor oil, and I had some lying around. So I used it, 2 1/2 Qts
on a d16a6. Worked out great, my tranny was troublesome in reverse and 1st, not anymore. Though from what I've read: the GM stuff is the best
edit: Honda doesn't recommend the use of any additives, so I wouldn't use them use

I run a mix of redline 10w-40 and GM synchromesh. It of course has not fixed the third gear synchro problem but it hasn't gotten any worse either. (I say this because I've heard people say the synchromesh has fixed such problems)

Those are the same people that say they felt the big HP difference when they added an intake to their SOHC Dual point.
No fluid is going to magically repair a worn gear/sleeve/synchro assembly.
I would go with OEM Honda Manual Transmission stuff.

Umm... someone teach me to quote.
" honda manual transmission fluid ftw!! its a little pricey, but you'll be glad you spent the money when your tranny doesn't blow up.."
If you really want this stuff, kingmotorsports has it for a decent price. You know, so you don't have to deal with jerk dealership guys

Honda states 10w-30 or 10w-40 is acceptable to use temporarly until you can switch out to their MTF. I trust the engineers @ Honda before I would trust some random guy in a forum whose real name I do not know.
Just use the Honda MTF.

Yep, thats the website; http://www.kingmotorsports.com...num=2
I heard that's what Honda recommends; "10w-30 or 10w-40 is acceptable to use temporarly until you can switch out to their MTF."
but you know, they only started saying that after they came out with their MTF
hmmm, interesting. But yeah, Motor oil works fine, I know a technician, and they use Valvoline 10w30 in our trannies.
Motor oil works for me but try the Honda and GM stuff and see what you like
I only used castrol 10w30 because I had some lying around, but I think I'll continue to use it, even switch to valvoline, Hear it's really good stuff
But I do wanna try the Gm syncnhromesh, I hear it's better than Honda MTF
