Default spun bearing, reuse the rods?

i have a quick question for you guys. it may be obvious but ive never dealt with a spun bearing. im looking to buy some eagle rods for pretty cheap but the guy says that one has a spun bearing. is the rod okay to use if i just replace the bearing with oversized ones or will it just pose problems in the future? again sorry for the noob question but i just wanna make sure before i drop some money on something that i wont be able to use. thanks

take it to a machineshop, if its not black, overheated and stressed i would use it. i have done it before, but it wasnt overheated and black.

Generally when a rod bearing spins, you end up ovaling the rod. This will cause you to continue to spin rod bearings in the future. Your best bet is to do 1 of 2 things.

1. Bring it to a machine shops and have them check it for oval...then line bore them if they are out-of-round. You will then need oversize bearings.

2. Buy a set of Eagle rods.

manley and eagle h beam rods run from 275-350. Just buy some new ones, you'll thank yourself.

You're lucky CRX Toad isn't a mod here, he'd lock this thread and detuct 1%, despite being a mod yourself.

The rod is usually junk if the bearing spun in the rod. If it was just beat up/eaten away and the tangs kept the bearing in place, its fine if it didnt' overheat. If you can get the rods for 1/2 price, do so and buy a replacement rod. IIRC people have bought them for ~$80.

depending on the power leve, is wether i would reuse it.

hey adam, they can actually mill the cap down a little and resize the big end, w/o messing with the installed height too much.

but if you plan on spinning this engine and making decent power, i would just get a new rod, because now you are throwing out the balance, and theoretically weakening the big end on that rod.
