good times. just disappointed we didn't get to turn the boost up and make a run at the Redline track record.
jeff let me drive his hatch during a practice session. that was the most fun i had driving in a long time. k24 ftw.

Snap!! You shoulda went, Chris!
I wish I would have known about those records...here I was thinking that 1:12.7 was decent. Oh well. I guess I can go on and on about how I was only on street tires though, right?
Or the fact that I was running with a severe lack on intestinal fortitude, lol...following the last run, a few of the local S2000 guys noticed that I was running far too slow in the banking.

x2 I was talking about the non-street class where my car would've ended up.. 1.12.x on a street tire in an RSX is no slouch of a lap..

I appreciate that! I got some pretty nice feedback from some of the hired hotshoes there during the event as well, and that was a massive stroke to my feeble ego. I dunno, I still consider myself to be a pretty novice driver, but when I saw some of those SCCA records, I was kinda bummed initially.
Honestly, I think there was still more speed to be had...maybe not so much in the infield, as I've watched even some of the competitors' videos on sticky tires, and I was pretty much just as fast, if not faster throughout the majority of the infield...but I was really *****-footing it through the banking. I tried taking some angle out of the rear wing to help open up more straight-line speed on the straight...but I think it cost me in the run-up speed through the banked portion. I guess FWD cars aren't the best equipment to be running in an oval with...especially with a staggered wheel and tire setup that's conducive to lots of rotation. All I know is that the S2000s were hitting the braking zone before turn one at 15-20mph than I was.
Plus the car was slightly off on the power...we changed the intake and exhaust setup (had to weld a cat onto the car to comply with "street" class rules) and I could tell it wasn't running right, simply from the coating of "dirty sanchez" of burnt carbon that was pretty thick around the edge of the exhaust tip. Definitely in need of a tune.
More than anything else, I just need more seat time, and judging from how quickly others have run around this track, I could definitely use some more practice.
I really wish I could afford to go down again this weekend for NASA, because I think there's still at least another second to be had between the exit onto the oval and around again through turn one. All in all, while the Time Attack is loads of fun, I think I learn more from the NASA events. Plus, it was so weird with it being a NOPI event, too this past weekend.
I'm so used to being one of the slower guys with a 4-banger that people at NASA events talk to because he's a nice guy and doesn't drive like a jerk...where I'm just another person sharing the track and helping everyone else get around even faster. At this event, it's a little different atmosphere, and it was so weird seeing hoarde of on-lookers form the show scene checking out my car, which I've always considered nothing too extraordinary.
I'll put it this way...not too many people at a NASA event say my car is "sick," "tight," "dope," etc...nor do I have people revving at me and looking at me "hard" as I head out to grid, nor do I have people asking me to "hit that sh*t " so that they can hear how my exhaust sounds, or people acting completely flabbergasted that the car essentially has a stock motor and can run so fast without a bottle or boost....if that's any sort of indication of what I'm getting at.
Getting attention and good conversation from the other teams and drivers and enthusiasts was phenomenal, but the rest of the stuff was just kinda weird. To come back from the restroom to see some girls posing on your car with next to nothing on would probably be a dream come true for some...but for me it was just a little awkward, and I found myself walking nondescriptly to the truck to sit in back and eat some pringles with my girlfriend and my little brother.

Just to make Mike feel better, I heard from numerous people that the track was "slower" at this years time attack than last years because of the extra rubber on the infield from the drifters. I have no idea if this is true or not, but a few people said it. So who knows.
And Mike, I know I have asked you on numerous occasions to "hit it" so don't act novice about that.

Haha, oopsies!
I have some video of a guy pinwheeling off of the tires outside turn 1. It was pretty scary, there was oil on the track right there. I locked up my fronts and fortunately was going slow enough that it was a non-event for me, but the other guy busted up a couple of corners on his car. Another BMW tried to kill me too by spinning across the track right in front of me, but fortunately there was lots of grass for me to bail out in.
Oh, and I smashed the **** out of the Spec Miata track record
Hahaha it only took me double the HP to do it. 1:10.7 during Sunday qualifying but there was definitely more time to be had, at least a half second if I hadn't been broken for the race.
Maybe I should try to get to the next Redline event that's in the neighborhood.

Spec Miata's are pretty fast at Gateway... definitely faster, relative to other classes, than what I've seen at other tracks.
The only thing I smashed this last weekend was the tire wall outside of turn 4.
I had a control arm come loose on me during the race, after I had launched the car off of the curbing during practice. I was the red/white Porsche 944-Spec with Colorado plates.

Holy crazy spin!! I cant believe the guy didnt hit the wall it was SO close!! He was top of 4th and looks like he messed up the downshift from 5th and locked up the rear.

Hahahaha...right on!!!
You should! The cars in the Modified FWD class wouldn't have been a challenge for ya...the RSX was fast (running 275 BFG R1s up front) but he was still learning the course, and the Spec Focus wouldn't have been too difficult at all.
The next one's at Miller Motorsports Park (a hike) but after that, there's one in Nashville which looks like it should be a lot of fun!
And yeah, that CRAZY S2000 spin was in the same weekend as the Redline Time Attack, but the 1:10 was from the next weekend.
I shoulda came out to the NASA event...heard the track wasn't as messy without all those drifters laying down tons of crappy, greasy rubber...but I shouldn't complain, it's not everyday you see an Element getting sideways!!!

Yes, yes I do I have never seen someone steer so ferociously. You should have double registered for the NOPI and Redline event.
