radio problem.
i have a 98 civic dx. when i got the car the radio harness connector was cut. it did have a radio in it, so i know the wires arent cut anywhere else. now i bought a 99 civic radio and the connector for it.
i followed this diagram, i did search
http://www.installdr.com/Harnesses/HA-Wiring.pdf
im getting power through the harness and the ground is working. however the radio wont turn on, when i put the radio in my friends 99 civic it works perfectly. any ideas? i checked the fuses, they are fine.
shouldn't the radio atleast turn on with just power and ground? im not much of a audio guy so im not sure. i know i should of taken it to someone who is, but i was bored. figured id give it a try

yea, my problem is this. i know my wiring is right for atleast the ground and power. i checked with a test light and it gets power through the harness. checked the ground and it is working.
with power and ground shouldnt the radio atleast turn on/light up?

96-98 Civics had a different plug. The radio you have is 99-00 right? The correct way to wire it is to get a 90-98 plug http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...80092 and connect the wires to your factory harness. Then get an adapter male 90-98 to a 99-04 female Honda radio harness. (I will post a link soon)

The pinouts you refer to from "InstallDR.com" may not be correct. Here are the pinouts from a Honda radio service manual. Your radio may not have all the wires shown, but power and ground wires are in the same slots.
Pin #1 is ACC 12v+, Pin #18 is constant 12v+, and Pin #20 is ground. So that's two + wires and one - wire to make the radio power up. Honda radio plugs changed between 97-98+ depending on the car. *All the info I've given is based upon the assumption that the back of your radio looks like:
